Love is an extremely complicated topic to understand at times. The complexities of a person's feelings can barely be explained by science. A lot of times, it's pretty normal to have trouble areas in relationships.

But what makes a couple that was head over heels in love, break up out of nowhere? If you're a man worried about your relationship deteriorating, keep reading. Or maybe you are curious about why your relationship ended. Here are five reasons men cause the love in their relationships to die.

1. Criticism

It is important to be honest with your partner in the relationship. Sometimes you have to tell them things they don't want to hear in order to help them in the long run. This is understandable. Issues arise when critiquing is taken too far and begins to hurt the other person's feelings.

When your words are doing more damage than good, that's when you should take a step back and evaluate the situation. Is your criticism more important than your significant other's feelings? If the answer is yes, you are damaging your relationship and your partner's self-esteem. Make sure to offer positive feedback as well, not just harsh words.

2. Nonexistent Praise

As humans, we all need a sense of validation and approval at times. It can be hard when you're trying your absolute best and it seems like no one notices. This can be particularly hard when it comes to your significant other.

If you find yourself never complimenting or praising the other person, this could be hurting your relationship. When someone never hears praise they can begin to believe you don't care about them and you're taking them for granted. Make sure to tell your lover you appreciate them.

3. No Romance

Most couples don't stay in the honeymoon phase of their relationships forever, but that doesn't mean the flame has to fizzle out. No matter how long you've been dating, it's important to keep things fresh. Go on spontaneous dates, surprise your partner with gifts, etc.

4. Comparing

Comparisons are a hard truth most of us face, particularly women. If you're in a relationship with a woman, avoid comparing her to other people in a negative light. Don't ever compare her to your exes. There is nothing good that comes out of comparing your girlfriend or wife to someone else. It'll take a toll on your relationship and her self--esteem.

5. Attention

Acknowledging your significant other's presence is important. They should never question whether or not you care for them. They should be able to tell from your words and your actions that you love them. The little things are just as important as the big ones. Whether it's sharing your food or buying a trip to Paris, showing your partner you love them is crucial to keeping your relationship.
