Sloths are stars of funny viral videos and memes. But these amazing creatures have been around longer than the internet has been. These mammals aren't intimidating despite having long curved claws.

This video shows the fascinating moment when a sloth beams and waves back at its rescuer after it was saved from the center of a busy street. The sloth was crossing the street in Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro during peak hours.

Sloths are lethargic and adorable animals. Most of their time is usually spent at the top of trees, dozing, and remaining hidden from potential predators in the vicinity. The South American tropical forest is vast. This is where the majority of these animals are found. Sloths are not very social animals. They mostly lead a solitary life.

They maneuver from one tree to another through canopy vines. The animal has inhabited countries such as Brazil, Costa Rica, and Panama. Sloths thrive in the tropical climate. One thing that sets them apart is the fact that they are slow. According to Scientific American, they hold the prize for being the slowest mammals on earth. Their movement, from one point to another, is sluggish. This is because they have a very low metabolic rate.

These mammals are known to be very moderate. Most of the time, they are spotted on treetops chewing on leaves. The sloth has turned into the perfect symbol of unwinding. This is because of their lifestyle.

Sloths demonstrate a lighthearted character. Nonetheless, this is not to say they never face challenges of their own. Sometimes sloths stray from the safety of their homes. Their slow pace is dangerous. They risk being preyed on.

In Costa Rica, it is not unusual to see sloths out of their niche wide in the open. They endeavor to cross high traffic zones and other busy roads to get to where they want.

This can be a significant threat to their survival. They are usually at risk when crossing the streets. When they fail to do so on time, they are left at the mercy of drivers or the kindness of onlookers.

Jose Aldenizio, aged 50, also known as Denizio, decided to lend a helping hand to the poor animal. This was pure luck for the sloth. His act of kindness was caught in an intriguing video. The sloth was trying to cross the street when its guardian angel came to its rescue. It appears the sloth had no complaints whatsoever.

From the inspiring video, the sloth seems relaxed as Denizio was helping. The sloth enabled him to lift it out of danger and carry it in the opposite direction. After they had successfully crossed the busy street, Denizio did not just leave the sloth on the grass. He escorted the sloth to a nearby tree.

The sloth hastily gripped the tree trunk comfortably. Denizio bid farewell to his new companion. Before he could withdraw to his vehicle, the sloth, in a rare moment, expressed gratitude to its Good Samaritan, reports the Daily Mail. This was done spectacularly.

In its slow nature, the sloth swung to take a glimpse at the cameras. The man waved goodbye to the animal and amazingly the sloth returned the gesture. It lifted its arm and waved goodbye to its rescuer. But this wasn't all. The sloth's mouth appeared to extend into a lethargic shape, and its eyes were closed. This was interpreted to be a way of showing appreciation.

Social media was soon flooded with reactions to this rare video. The sloth’s human-like response to Denizio triggered mind-blowing responses from all corners. The footage had a vast number of views on Facebook and a few million views on Twitter.
