Size 16 Woman Calls Out Airline Company For Tight Seat Belts & Online Users Agree With Her Concern

Aug 31, 2023 by apost team

Flying to different locations using an aircraft shouldn’t be a hassle to anyone regardless of their size, gender, color, and the like. In simple words, no person should be discriminated against by anyone, as most airlines promise to give their passengers a good time whenever they book flights with them.

However, a woman named Katie had an unfortunate experience when she flew with RyanAir as she called them out on social media for their safety belts, and there were also people who aired out similar concerns when she posted her issue on social media.

The woman, who goes by the handle Katie’s Curvy Closet online and loved sharing her outfits with her followers, shared a series of photos on her Instagram account in August 2023 where she could be seen being uncomfortable on her seat while flying with the said airline company.

In the caption, Katie said she was hesitant if she should post the photos or not, but she felt “lassoed” into a seat during her flight to Cork, Ireland.

She began her rant by noting that the average woman is “a size 16” and everyone is all different when it comes to sizes and shapes.

However, she questioned the airline’s standards when it came to the seat belt, as it didn’t feel normal at all.

Although she acknowledged that people should lower their standards whenever they fly with budget airlines, she noted that even before she lost weight in the past, she could fit in a normal belt and didn’t have to ask for an extender.

Later in the post, Katie noted that the reason why she wanted to highlight her experience was because many people would feel embarrassed if they were put in the same situation.

“These kind of incidents can be so harmful to ones self esteem , mental health and the rest,” she wrote.

Unfortunately, she claimed that she was not the only one who experienced the same issue with belts in the aircraft, as many people messaged her the night prior when she shared the photos on her Instagram stories.

“People have had to request extender belts . They’ve felt mortified and like its been just them so im letting you know ITS NOT JUST YOU ❤️,” she added.

After she shared the post with her followers, there were some online users who claimed to have experienced the same issue and noted that the seats were also smaller compared to the ones they used in the past with the same airline company.

“I noticed this when i was home in the summer! The seats felt smaller too, i was rubbing elbows with everyone😳,” one commented. Another person said it was "much to embarrassing to ask for the extender

“I’m glad you brought this up.I had a similar issue when I flew home last year I just about managed to close the belt.and I have not ever had this issue,” another one wrote.

One user revealed that they flew with the same airline earlier that year and shared their experience: “I was on a @ryanair flight to Lanzarote last April. No way would the seatbelt close. I needed another 2 inches, I asked for an extender for the first time in my life, I was mortified.”
