Children are generally more aware of their environment and in tune with their surroundings in a different type of way. Whether this is due to keen observation or their developing senses, children seem to notice a lot more things about our world.

One child proves just how useful this innate ability can be when an instinct caused her to save her family from a fire.

Little six-year-old Madalyn Karlbon lives with her family in Avenel, New Jersey. She lives with a younger, two-year-old sibling and her parents. As Inside Edition discovered, on the fateful day of the incident, her father, Jimmy, and both children were asleep upstairs while her mother had fallen asleep downstairs on the couch. Around 2 a.m., Madalyn sensed something that would ultimately save her family's lives.

She woke up in the middle of the morning to a burning sensation in her face, according to USA Today. She felt it most heavily in her eyes and throat. That was when she heard the faint beeping of the home's smoke detector alarm and immediately knew that something was wrong. Because Madalyn was the only person awake in the household, she was the only one who had heard the noise. What happened next was ultimately up to her.

The upstairs floor was full of so much smoke that she could not see anything through it. According to authorities, the fire had begun on the stove in the kitchen just before the family went to sleep for the night.

The Karlbon family lost all of their belongings as a result of the fire and their home was damaged too much to be habitable. However, the family is alive and well, and while they nearly lost everything, they still have each other thanks to brave, little Madalyn.

As reported by ABC News, Madalyn has learned about fire safety in school just three months before the incident. Her quick thinking and acting on what she had learned saved not only hers but the lives of everyone in her family.

Jimmy Karlbon, Madalyn's father later told the press that he remembered hearing Madalyn scream that the house was on fire. Right after he woke up and realized what was occurring, he quickly navigated around the home to find the rest of the family.

Thankfully, he managed to get everyone to safety and called the firefighters before the fire could spread to other homes in the neighborhood.

The authorities could not believe that little Madalyn had saved the entire household and complimented her on her quick reactions to the situation. She is now regarded as a hero to the people in her neighborhood and her story even made the headlines on top news channels.
