Six-Year-Old Girl Arrested, Handcuffed, Charged With Battery After Throwing A Tantrum In School

A 6-year-old child from Florida was arrested and handcuffed when she "threw a tantrum" at a charter school a few weeks ago. An Orlando police officer who was working within the school district arrested Kaia Rolle and another 8-year-old in a separate incident.
Meralyn Kirkland, the grandmother of Kaia, told the news that her young granddaughter was transported to a local juvenile detention center after being detained by the school resource officer.
According to the news website WFLA, a school employee first grabbed hold of the young girl's wrists as she was having a tantrum. Rolle then started to kick at the legs of the employee. Because of this, Rolle was handcuffed by the police officer and given a battery charge after being taken to the Orlando Juvenile Assessment Center.
According to the grandmother, the police handcuffed the girl, put her in their police car, and took a mugshot once they arrived at the facility. Rolle was also fingerprinted while she was there. Kirkland is outraged at the treatment her granddaughter received over a temper tantrum.

As she waited for her granddaughter to come out of the juvenile detention center, Kirkland said that what had transpired hit her "like a ton of bricks." She said that no 6-year-old should already tell a story of how they were fingerprinted and handcuffed because of a temper tantrum.
Kirkland reported that Rolle has a sleeping disorder that can cause her to act erratically. She said that the family is presently working on the problem. But when she told the officers about it, she reported that one of them said that they have the same disorder and do not act the way that Rolle did.
Officer Dennis Turner was the policeman on duty when the incident occurred. According to Wanda Miglio, a Lieutenant at the Orlando Police Department, Turner didn't follow the policy put in place when he arrested the child. The policy states that you must have approval from the watch commander to arrest a child who is under the age of 12.
Turner is currently suspended from duty as the internal investigation regarding the incident is conducted.
