Sir Tom Jones Reveals 87-Year-Old Little Richard Still Sings To Him On The Phone

If you thought that age could separate Tom Jones and Little Richard, you’re wrong. Despite Little Richard just having his 87th birthday, the two celebrities are still in constant contact. Little Richard still calls his old friend up on the phone just so that he can talk to him and sing to him.

While Richard recently broke his hip and has been unable to find a treatment that will help, being able to keep in contact with Jones is said to be therapeutic for him. When Richard was down with his hip issue, Jones went to Tennessee to visit him and was happy to enjoy a musical while he was there, according to Mirror.

Jones told Mirror that he calls Little Richard often, anxious to see how things are going with his friend. During one recent conversation, Little Richard broke out into song with a stunning rendition of “Strange Things Happening Every Day”. Despite the time that has passed, Jones assured us that it sounded great and, regardless of the pain that he is experiencing, his voice doesn’t show that he is suffering at all.

After hearing the rendition of “Strange Things Happening Every Day”, Jones offered Little Richard some honor as well by explaining that he always finishes his show with that song. According to Mirror, Little Richard was surprised and told the others in the room about it with the exclamation, “Oh my soul!”

Jones is about to hit the eighty mark himself and he told Mirror that he wants to embrace the new decade of his life with something special. He wants to create new covers that reflect his age rather than trying to chase the same man that he was fifty years ago.

While some people have tried to report that Little Richard is in such bad shape that he is nearing death, his attorney William Sobel spoke to The Rolling Stone in 2016 to ensure his fans that he is far from simply “clinging to life”. Little Richard made the announcement that he was annoyed that such a rumor got started, but let the public know that, rather than being near death, he is still singing and, aside from his hip problems, is in good shape.

It’s good to know that, even after all these years, both Jones and Richards are doing well and enjoying life. These musicians may be getting older but they aren’t letting it hold them down.
