Single Mother's Rug Burn Leads To Limb Amputation After Doctors Hear About Son's Sore Throat

We have all experienced some type of small pain that we don’t think much of. Maybe we trip and bump into the wall, causing a bruise on our arm to quickly form. You may notice a cut on your leg, and you have no idea how it got there. 

It happens to everyone at some point in time, and we usually just shrug it off and go about our day. But for one mother in Wisconsin, a small rug burn almost turned into a life-threatening issue.

Alecia Kennen had a small accident back in 2015. The 37-year-old mother accidentally fell over the family dog, getting a very small rug burn right on the top of her shoulder from the floor.

She never thought that it could be anything worse than an annoying burn, but she soon realized how wrong she was. Not only was it about to become a serious issue, but this mother was a single mom raising three young men all by herself.

It was shortly after the fall that she noticed a very sharp pain developing under the armpit of the shoulder she fell on. It very quickly became so unbearable that she had to go to the hospital.

When she got there, the medical staff realized just how much danger she was really in. In just a couple of days, Alecia was in the intensive care unit, fighting for her very life. Alecia was dealing with internal bleeding. All of her vital organs were starting to shut down as her lungs filled with fluid. Her feet started to turn black because she was not getting enough oxygen and blood flow to her limbs.

The doctors frantically tried to perform exploratory surgery to discover the root of the problem, but they still had no clear diagnosis. They talked to her immediate family and told them to prepare for her death.

It wasn’t until one of her young sons mentioned that he had a sore throat that the medical staff realized what was going on. Alecia was dealing with a common illness. However, in her case, it was a rare occurrence that cost a lot more to her health.
