Single Mom Unknowingly Fostered Adopted Son’s Biological Sister Before Realizing They Were Siblings

This incredible story proves that miracles do exist. Katie Page, of Parker, Colorado, never grew up thinking that she would become a single mom one day. But that is exactly what happened when she parted ways with her husband in her early 30s.

However, despite how things turned out, Page was determined that she would not be depressed over the state of events. So she purchased a new Colorado home, started a new career and became a foster mother. She had always had problems with fertility but knew she would adopt children one day.

Then in 2016, a 4-day-old boy was dropped at a local hospital. The plight of the nameless infant changed the course of Page's life. She took the baby in as her foster child and named him Grayson. A little less than a year later a judge terminated the parental rights of Grayson's parents, which meant that Page was finally able to adopt Grayson when he was 11 months old.

The doting mom loved the life she had with Grayson. And she also planned to adopt a second child when the time was right. But one day, a phone call from a social worker accelerated the clock for Page.

A second newborn had been abandoned at the same hospital where Grayson was found. This time the infant was a girl. Page says her mind raced for a full 10 minutes about what to do and she began to call all her friends and family. She later said that something inside of her told her she had to say yes to the new addition to her family. Little did she know the surprise she had in store.

It was only a matter of hours before Hannah was in Page's home. She looked at Hannah's hospital bracelet as she held the child and her mouth fell open with amazement. The name of the mother listed on Hannah's bracelet was the same as Grayson's. The mother's birthday was also the same. Page believed Hannah was Grayson's younger sister. She told Good Morning America:

"(The caseworkers) told me her story, which was really similar to Grayson's ... I saw her medical bracelet and the first name of her mother was the same name as Grayson's mom. She didn't have a typical name."

But the doting mother wanted to be sure. It took some time to track down Hannah's mom but it was worth the effort. She confirmed she had given birth to a baby boy about a year before Hannah was born. Page went a step further and had DNA tests done on the children and it was confirmed that Page's two adopted children were indeed half-siblings. She told GMA:

"(Hannah) is the opposite of Grayson ... He loves to chill and she's a wild thing. As soon as I started figuring it out that she was his sibling, I said, 'Absolutely, (I'll adopt her).' Once I took in Grayson and I accepted being his mom, I accepted his family."

Page is incredibly happy she listened to the voice inside of her that told her to bring Hannah home. She is proud to have the siblings together under her roof and to be able to raise them as her children. She told the news outlet that being a mom was on her bucket list and she "also always wanted to adopt."

At the end of 2018, Page officially adopted Hannah. Incredibly, two years later, she learned about another biological sibling of Grayson and Hannah's — a boy named Jackson. Page ended up adopting him in June 2020.

Then in Feb. 2021, Page learned of yet another biological sibling of her three children. Page took the little girl, who she referred to as "Nora" for privacy reasons, into her home and fostered her, but Nora would eventually be adopted by a couple in Florida. In fact, the couple, Kaci and Dustin Whitney were already the adoptive parents of the siblings' older sisters, Taylor and EadyGrace. That means that Page has three of the biological siblings and so do the Whitneys. Page told People:

"There's six within the two families now. They have three of them, and I have three of them ... We've all been really open that they are all siblings ... And we'll maintain that relationship."

But the three siblings aren't the only children in Page's life — after she began dating her boyfriend Josh, he brought two of his biological children to their relationship. Page told People:

"My boyfriend has moved in so we're committed to raising all of his kids and mine ... if any more should come along, it'll be biological, because the needs of mine are so high at this point."

The mom of five opened up about some of the difficulties her adopted children had, for example, with autism, but she always comes back to why she did this in the first place. She said:

"Every child deserves a safe and loving home, whether that's forever or temporary ... Some of us are lucky enough to have that through our biological parents, some of us are not, but every child deserves one ... and it's so cool to watch them stay together and be part of their journey."
