A photo of Nashville single mom Soncya Williams with her son was posted after her graduation from Tennessee State University in 2014. In the photo, her son is seen holding a sign that says, "She did it for me!" Even years later, the photo still inspires others to continue with their higher education.
Soncya Williams was trying to earn her degree at Lemoyne Owen College in Memphis Tennessee when she found out that she was pregnant. Although she had a full-ride at the historically black college and university, Soncya found out two and a half years into studying that she was expecting a child. Despite how hard being a single mom going to college would be, Soncya decided to perservere.

In an interview with apost.com Soncya said:
"The moment I found out I was carrying my son Elijah was the moment I knew I had to keep going."
Soncya decided to move back home to Nashville, Tennessee so she could have the support of her family and she graduated only one semester late, in 2014. Soncya then posted a photo of her in her graduation gown on her Instagram, and the photo caught the internet by storm. It pictured her carrying her son Elijah, with him holding a sign that said: "She did it for me!"

The single mom, despite all odds, got her degree. The photo and the story both still circulate as a reminder of the strength Soncya had as a single mom going to college. Soncya told apost.com:
"The photo was originally snapped in December 2014 but was recently posted in recognition of my continuous hard work and my son being my motivation behind everything I do."
