Single Mom Realizes She's Dating The Man Who Might Be Her Daughter's Biological Father

May 29, 2022 by apost team

After meeting a man, going out for a few months, and even agreeing to monogamy, one single mom realized her new beau might be her child's biological father. In a post originally published on the subreddit /relationship_advice, one woman recalled the story of how she found herself dating a one-night stand from years ago. The reconnection would be coincident enough if there wasn't also the added detail of OP having become pregnant after that night.

OP struggled with whether to tell her partner about their past. Or their child. Was it even him? Unsure of the legality or even the right words, OP retold the story to Reddit in April 2022, hoping for help.

She explained her situation, saying, "I'm a single mother to a beautiful little girl from a one-night stand about 4.5 years." She revealed that they met after she'd "just finished college and had just moved." At the time, OP was about to leave on vacation, so they kept it casual. After their no-strings-attached night together, OP said she bused home and didn't think too much about her mystery man.

She soon realized she was pregnant but was able to raise the baby with the support of her family, namely her brothers, and never thought too much about the father. She stressed the fact that she is independent, writing bluntly, "I am stable time-wise, and money-wise. I DO NOT need this man in my life." However, given his surprise re-entry into their orbit, OP questioned whether to tell him. And how?

OP continued, relaying how it was she made the unexpected discovery. At first, she didn't connect the timeline. That night was a long time ago, and they "had [both] been drinking." That all changed when OP saw her new boyfriend's condo. She wrote how recently she "went back to his place for the first time." Once there, she realized "it's the same F****** building." She said she "recognized the hallways instantly." The boyfriend also had a very familiar layout and "the same view from [the] main window." To add to the similarities, OP said they'd "met both times at two very similar events." Increasingly, she was convinced it was the same guy.

However, they'd both changed physically since they'd first met. The ONS had "had shoulder-length wavy dark hair and a thick beard." The current boyfriend had "a similar skin tone," but also "short-cropped dark hair, light stubble, and glasses." This could all be proof that OP just has a type, but the two men also "have the same name." Coincidence? Maybe. OP admitted that it's "a very basic American name" and could mean nothing.

She explained that she looked "very different too." She relayed how she "used to be very thin, and suffered from an eating disorder, that [her] pregnancy really and helped [her] to overcome." She continued, saying "I also had short hair that I straightened & I'm half black and admittedly look very different now with my longer curly hair."

So was it just a case of two look-alikes? Strangers with the same name? Or was he, at least biologically, her child's father?

Unable to decide, OP ultimately sent him her post, admitting, "I didn't know how else to do it. He saw it half an hour ago. And has yet to respond." She said she also "sent him a picture of [herself] 5yrs ago, and told him the event and when, where." Finally, the boyfriend "messaged at like 4am to say: Yes, I was there. I remember you." After reading this, OP wrote, "I'm going to give him time and contact my family's lawyer."

She posted afterward, saying, "I doubt this will be the update everyone was hoping for but he 'bounced' to put it politely. Won't answer my calls. Or messages." She relayed the aftermath, saying, "We talked the first few days. Exchanged pictures etc. It's definitely him. He knows it is. Then about a week and a bit ago.. nothing." Hearing this, the comment section reacted better than the boyfriend. One Redditor wrote, "Ugh this was not the romance novel ending I was hoping for."

While the ghosting does ruin the rom-com vibe, OP revealed that regardless she had bigger plans for herself and her daughter. She said she's moving to Europe with her brothers to start a business. She also, maturely, said she's open to allowing her ONS-turned-boyfriend to get to know their daughter if he ever re-appears. Many posters then wondered if this truly was the last chapter, with one writing, "I really don't think this is the last well see of this OOP." Who knows, maybe there will be a European sequel?
