While the holiday season has many joyous moments, it can be challenging for some people, especially parents. Trying to make sure your children are happy and receive the gifts they want can be very time-consuming and might cost more than you were expecting. Fortunately, the merry season also comes along with many people showing off their kinder sides and making donations to those in need.

Nichole Lemieux is a single mother to a young son and daughter. The family has had a difficult road and, unfortunately, not all of their holidays have been filled with joy and happiness. Thankfully, that changed in December 2018.

The single mother from Haverhill, Massachusetts, ran into a friend while she was grocery shopping and talked about the exciting new chapter of her life. She had been homeless for a few years and lived in a shelter for part of that time, but all of that was finally changing. This was the season that her children would finally get a Christmas tree and enjoy the holiday in their new apartment.

While Lemieux was talking to her friend, a man overheard her and immediately pulled out his wallet. He was so moved by her story that he decided that he wanted to do whatever he could to spread as much holiday cheer as possible — all while making Lemieux’s day. The single mother was moved and overwhelmed by the stranger’s act of kindness, and all she wanted to do was find a way to thank him. Read on to find out more about this kind-hearted story.

A Gesture That She Will Never Forget

December 2018 was a very special holiday season for Lemieux and her two children, who were around 6 and 2 at the time. The family had been through some hard times but finally landed back on their feet.

“We just got this apartment after almost two and a half years being homeless,” Lemieux told WBZ-TV. Talking about her daughter, she said, “She’s never seen a Christmas tree. She’s never seen a picture of Santa. She’s never slept in her own bed. It’s one of the best things we could have asked for for Christmas.”

While the single mom was grocery shopping in Haverhill, she ran into a friend and got emotional as she talked about the happy days her family had ahead of them. A stranger overheard and joined their conversation. Lemieux explained, “He took out his wallet. Grabbed a $100 bill and handed it to me and said, ‘Buy yourself something nice for Christmas.’ I hugged him and I lost it.”

Since then, the single mom has hoped to find the kind man and do something to pay him back. “He has no idea what he’s done for us,” she said. “At the end of a very hard year, that was unbelievable.” According to WBZ-TV, Lemieux said she hopes to get the chance to buy the stranger a coffee and thank him once again.

The random act of kindness has stuck with the single mother, and will hopefully spark even more moments like this in the future. “No one has ever done something like that,” Lemieux said. “I didn’t realize people like that still exist.”
