Simon Rolls His Eyes When He Hears Their Song Choice — Until They Start And Take His Breath Away

Simon Cowell is an infamous judge in the talent show world. While he has his moments of vulnerability and sweetness, he is known for his scathing remarks and rude comments. Occasionally, he has even brought contestants to tears. However, when a person knows they have impressed Cowell, then they are truly talented. While Cowell may be hard to handle, he seems to know talent when he sees it. This is what happened on "Britain's Got Talent" in 2015. A group called The Kingdom Tenors were snubbed by Cowell, only to wow him at the end!

Cowell is world-famous for his scathing remarks. In the same league as Gordon Ramsay, Cowell has made a name for himself as a tough judge who requires extreme talent to be impressed; making Cowell smile is a sure way to know that you have done something right during your audition. His tough-but-fair stance, paired with remarkable instincts for potential success, has made him a highly sought-after judge. He has launched some of the most famous musical personalities out there, including One Direction, Little Mix, Labrinth, Susan Boyle and Leona Lewis — among other well-known acts. This is quite a formidable list, so it's no wonder that so many people want to impress Cowell. Sometimes, however, even Cowell can be wrong about his first impression.

The Kingdom Tenors were a group of men who could be easily dismissed on the surface as nothing more than "pretty boys." They were all incredibly handsome, and the group looked especially sharp in their suits. As they file out together onto the stage, they pique the interest of both the judges and the audience: everyone is left wondering what this good-looking group is going to perform for them.

Before the group headed out, we catch a small comment made by one of the members, "If anyone can find a moment, a wink at one of the girls, yeah? It's important," he says and evokes some laughter from everyone. The bunch certainly knew they were handsome, it was only a matter of using that to their best advantage! This comment could have also been made to ease up their nerves. Going up to be judged on one of the most famous talent-shows on television is cause for some anxiety, after all.

As they all line up smartly on the stage, the judges are ready to be wowed. The ladies in the audience already seem to swoon before the performance. Judge Amanda Holden asks the group to introduce itself and follows it up by asking who is the youngest and oldest in the group. The youngest is 21 years old while the oldest is 31. They all also have regular jobs: one is a teacher, another is a car mechanic and one of them is a bartender who, according to him, has worked in every pub in London. It's a beautiful mix of men who have a lot to offer talent-wise and looks-wise.

When they say that they will be singing "You Raise Me Up," an epic ballad popularized by Josh Groban, we finally get a look at what Cowell is thinking, and it does not seem good. Cowell makes a snap judgment and rolls his eyes at the song choice: it had become a cliche of sorts after being used time and again for auditions in various talent shows. Holden doesn't seem impressed either but wishes them luck.

Expectations were likely pretty low at that point. Maybe this was to be another group that had some talent but not enough to make the cut. The group then lines up together and begins to sing, and each line is sung by a different man. Right off the bat, the audience seems to pick up that this is something special. Each of the singers has a unique voice, and by themselves, every man likely could have sung this song beautifully. However, a medley of these voices intermingling together is what makes this a truly distinct performance.

The Kingdom Tenors' arrangement was simply beautiful. It's already an amazing song, as Josh Groban's powerful vocals have made it iconic, but this group gave the song a whole new life. Maybe it was the medley of voices that gave it such raw power, but the hymn's spiritual themes seem to feel more poignant than ever with this performance, and there likely wasn't a dry eye in the house! After the first verse, the group quiets down and pauses before all the harmonies come together one more time for the crescendo — the chorus is repeated but with more power as all the men come forward together to reach the peak of their act.

The audience leaps to its feet and can be heard screaming with support. This is where we also see the judges realizing that this is no ordinary group; these men have some incredible potential. We see both Holden and Cowell break out into beaming grins. After they finish, they receive a standing ovation from the entire audience. The judges, then, have to make their call: does this group deserve to go forward into the next round?

As the judges discuss what they each thought, there is nothing but praise for the group's performance that day. David Williams goes first, saying there's something for everybody in the group. "They've got the cute young one with floppy hair, they've got the big, butch car mechanic one and they've got the one with glasses for the more intellectual...ladies." He knows the group has a beautiful blend of voices and believes that they will appeal to a lot of people. Alesha Dixon thought that the voices together were "spectacular" while Holden "loved the harmonies."

We then hear from Cowell, who is still a little hesitant as he believed that the group had a good idea but did not think that the song choice was unique enough. The audience doesn't seem to agree with his judgments, though, and we hear some "boos" from the audience. However, when it came time to say "yes," all the judges knew that this group was good enough to go onto the next round. The Kingdom Tenors made it until the semi-final round before they were disqualified, but even then, what they have accomplished speaks to their success as a group. Their official Facebook page can be found here. Though we don't know what the group is up to currently, we certainly know that they are a talented bunch that seems to have thoroughly impressed all four judges of "Britain's Got Talent."

What did you think of this act? We expect great things from them. Let us know in the comments, and show this inspiring performance to your friends and family members!
