Notorious talent-show judge Simon Cowell now has a new lease on life thanks to a restrictive diet he’s been following for the last year.

Cowell, who turns 60 today, claims his dairy-free, sugar-free and red-meat-free lifestyle has provided him with more energy than before as well as a newfound feeling of wellbeing.

Cowell claims a health scare he had back in 2017 inspired him to change his lifestyle. According to the Sun, the music mogul was rushed to the hospital after fainting on the stairs in his home while getting a glass of milk during an insomnia spell. He was diagnosed with low blood pressure and lost the two first days of live filming for X Factor UK as a result of the fall.

“Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock,” he said, as per the Sun. “They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever.”

Cowell blamed his fatty eating habits and unhealthy sleeping patterns for the incident. The 60-year-old revealed back in 2018 that he was going to sleep at 8 am, with his stress being his “biggest killer of all.”

“Suddenly you go, ‘I can’t live like this any more’. You don’t want your son walking in when you’re always asleep in the afternoon,” he told the Sun. “I mean, that’s not great.”

Speaking to Ellen Degeneres on her show, Cowell said he eventually saw a doctor, who told him it was important he change his lifestyle.

“I went to see this doctor in London. We did some tests. And then a month later he said, ‘You have the worst diet I’ve ever met from any patient,’ ” he explained. “So I went, ‘Okay, out of the smoking, the drinking, and diet, what do I have to drop?’ And he said, ‘The diet.’ So I said, ‘I’m in!’ “

The doctor instructed Cowell to remove red meat, gluten, sugar, and dairy from his diet.

“It was easier than I thought, and part of the reason I did it was because of Eric [his son],” he said on The Ellen Degeneres Show. “I realized if I didn’t sort myself out physically, I wouldn’t be able to catch up with him. Because the minute he gets up to the minute he goes to sleep … their energy, you forget, at 5-years-old, is phenomenal.”
