Simon Cowell Makes Candid Comment On Terrifying Back Injury — Fans React

Jun 24, 2021 by apost team

"America's Got Talent" head honcho Simon Cowell was in a bike accident in August 2020 that involved him falling off an electric scooter at his Malibu home. The accident was no small incident, leaving him with a fractured back in three places and requiring emergency surgery that lasted six hours.

Apparently undergoing a number of procedures and fusions, as well as having a metal rod inserted in his back, doctors said that the injury was bad but that Cowell was very lucky. Afterward, the entertainment hotshot went public about the accident and proceeded to warn others of the dangers of electric bikes. Specifically, he warned others by also poking fun at himself by stating on his Twitter: "Some good advice...If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time."

Following the surgery, Cowell was ordered to rest, so he took some much-needed time off at his Malibu home. He even had to take a hiatus from recording "America's Got Talent," as well as a Christmas special for "Britain's Got Talent." He's since recovered and appears to be doing well.

Now that Cowell is back to work, he's recently posted a clip of him on Tuesday night's 'America's Got Talent' show to his Instagram. In the clip, Cowell makes a comment about his bike injury, and the rare comment has fans worldwide reacting.

Read on to learn more about Cowell's bike injury, his recovery, and the candid comment he made about the experience while on Tuesday night's AGT show.

Simon Cowell's bike accident took place at his Malibu home and was the result of testing out a new electric bike, while his son Eric and his brother Adam were with him at the time. After being taken to hospital and receiving emergency surgery, Cowell was also forced to consider his lifestyle, which used to consist of work calls late into the night. Since then, he's taken on much healthier habits, as reported by the Daily Mail, which includes walking 40 miles a week as part of his road to recovery. A source told the publication, "Cowell hasn't worn trainers as much as he does now for over 20 years." They went on to add:

"He feels fitter than ever before and is keeping to a normal routine rather than being on the phone until into the early hours of the morning."

During an interview with Extra TV in February 2021, Cowell talked more about the severity of his injury. "It could have been a lot worse," he said. He talked about the result of the accident in more detail, as he said, "I really nearly smashed my spine to pieces. I literally wouldn't have been able to walk."

Cowell seemed hopeful and strong-willed to recover from the start, however. Right after the accident happened, he convinced himself that he had to get back into the house despite having just broken his back. "I was thinking, 'I've got to get back into the house because I can't lie there,' — and I saw their faces, you're not supposed to get up — and I made myself kind of get carried into my bedroom, which is right at the end of the house," he told Extra TV.

Cowell talked more about the support he had from his family and how great they were at helping him during his recovery process. "She was amazing," Cowell said of Silverman. "Both her and Eric, they were my support." Cowell was apprehensive about having to explain what happened to his young son, but his girlfriend reassured him.

"I was so embarrassed about coming home looking about 100 because I couldn't walk, and I have these metal rods in my back and all these screws," Cowell said. "I said, 'Lauren, I just don't know how to explain it to Eric.' She obviously said something to him because he came in and I was lying in bed and he said, 'Daddy, you're like Ironman,' and I thought that was the sweetest thing, and it meant a lot."

Cowell did an interview for Access Hollywood with his co-stars from "America's Got Talent" in February 2021. The group talked about being able to go into the new season together and how they were starting auditions the following month. Cowell's injury was healed, and he was ready to get back to work. He explained how he felt "100 percent" better from the extreme amount of exercise he needed to do in order to recover from such a serious injury.

Now Cowell has posted a clip of Tuesday night's 'America's Got Talent' show to his Instagram in which he comments on his back injury. In the video, he was featured with a balloon above his head that co-star Sofia Vergara was to shoot with a bow and arrow. Cowell captioned the clip:

"I thought breaking my back was the worst thing that could happen to me..."

Co-star Heidi Klum commented on the post with a string of shocked emojis.

One fan commented:

"Very crazy."
