Simon Cowell 'Lucky To Be Alive' Following Another E-Bike Crash

Feb 02, 2022 by apost team

News outlets have reported that Simon Cowell has been in yet another e-bike crash 18 months after he broke his back on his first bike accident. The incident took place near his west London home at the end of January 2022 and led to Cowell being rushed to the hospital right after his fall. While his injuries are not as severe as his previous accident, it was certainly severe enough to break his arm and cause worries for concussion. However, he is reportedly doing better currently.

Cowell is most famously known for being a record executive, entrepreneur and a longtime television personality for a variety of competition shows in both the United States and England, including “America’s Got Talent” and “The X Factor.” He’s usually seen as the harsher judge on the shows due to his blunt and brutal honesty, but he typically has sound advice for the contestants. However, the TV star does have a soft spot in his heart for his girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, and their son Eric. In fact, his family played a crucial role in helping Cowell recover from his severe injury during 2020.

Previously, Cowell had also explained what happened to him in an Instagram post from Aug. 9, 2020, just a day after the injury occurred. “If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back,” Cowell wrote. According to People magazine, the injury required a five-hour surgery where he had fusions and a metal rod put in his back.

The first accident took place at Cowell's Malibu home as the result of testing out a new electric bike, and Cowell's son Eric and his brother Adam were with him at the time of the accident. Cowell's rep told Entertainment Tonight:

"Simon has broken his back in a number of places in a fall from his bike whilst testing a new electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu with his family. He was taken to hospital where they operated overnight (Saturday). He's under observation and is doing fine."

Apparently undergoing a number of procedures and fusions, as well as having a metal rod inserted in his back, doctors said that the injury was bad but that Cowell was very lucky. Cowell took to Twitter to comment on the accident and offered some sage advice at his own expense, writing:

"Some good advice...If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages."

During an interview with Extra TV in February 2021, Cowell talked more about the severity of his injury. “It could have been a lot worse,” he said. He talked about the result from the accident in more detail, saying, “I really nearly smashed my spine to pieces. I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk.”

Thankfully, not only did Cowell have a full recovery, but he even took the opportunity to change his life for the better after the accident and lost a whopping 60lbs!

It is unfortunate then to know that Cowell has been involved in yet another accident involving an e-bike. According to NewsTalkZB, Cowell was admitted to the hospital with a broken arm and a suspected concussion after the crash. Moreover, he also had facial cuts after he slammed into the road while allegedly not wearing a helmet as per celebrity.nine.au.

"Simon is lucky to be alive. He was pedalling along, with his electric motor on, when the wheels suddenly went from under him after hitting a wet patch," a source told The Sun. "He slipped and went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road."

The source also added, "Stupidly, Simon wasn’t wearing a helmet, and blood was pouring from his face — he looked like something from Phantom of the Opera." Thankfully, people jumped to action to help Cowell and "stopped the traffic so he wouldn’t be run over."

The source also described the aftermath, "After being ambulanced to hospital and given an X-ray, Simon was eventually released that evening — his arm in a yellow cast all the way up to the shoulder — and told to rest."

PEOPLE Magazine also reported that the "America's Got Talent" judge is set to make a full recovery after the accident. "He fell off his bike and broke his arm. He's absolutely fine," the source said, and added that Cowell was already discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

Though this is the second time that Cowell has been in a serious accident involving an e-bike, he is not deterred from getting back on the bike in the future, "but he will start wearing a helmet," according to the source who spoke to The Sun.
