Simon Cowell and his partner Lauren Silverman had baby Eric in 2014 and Cowell opened up about the experience of fatherhood with reporters.

In his first interview since becoming a father, he opened up to Extra to show how proud he is of his family. He immediately said, “I was born to be a dad,” when asked about how it feels. He then described the birthing situation since he was in London and his partner was in New York.

He recounted what happened when the phone rang at an early hour.

“Phone rings at half-past five in the morning, 'I’m about to give birth [said Lauren],' so we had to find a flight, which we did, and I got there with two hours to spare.”

He made it in time for the birth and was a natural father right from the start, even though he was a little worried at first.

“I actually said to Lauren beforehand, 'What if I like the dogs more than him?' -- and she said, 'You're gonna be absolutely fine,' and then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it!”

Simon named his son after his father, a decision he’s very happy with, saying “I look at him, Eric, and I think of my dad all the time, so it's a really good thing.” He also wouldn’t rule out having more children as grew up with a brother. Although Simon is a stern judge on TV talent shows, he probably has a very soft spot for his son.
