The pressure was on during an episode of America’s Got Talent. Judge Simon Cowell and contestant Lamont Landers were in a bit of a disagreement about Landers’ song choice for his audition. The spat eventually led to Landers walking off the stage to practice another song but when he came back his performance had Simon on his feet.

Lamont auditioned for Americas Got Talent to pursue his dream of becoming a famous musician and singer. In the episode, he said,

“I’m happy to bring whatever I can to this show and roll the dice and see what happens.”

However, he probably didn’t see him and Simon quarreling when he envisioned what his audition would look like. Lamont started playing the song ‘Let's Stay Together’ by Al Green when Simon stopped his performance to comment that the song he chose was “a safe wedding song,” he then asked if Lamont had another song to sing to which Lamont replied, “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye.

All the judges agreed that too was “a safe wedding song.”

“I'm just wondering if we should come up with a better song because your problem is that you don’t take risks,” Simon said to Lamont.

But Landers said he was content with performing “What’s Going On” because he thought it was a “beautiful” song. Lamont even went above Simon to ask the audience what they want him to do. The audience was mixed with some yelling “yes!” and others booing.

“Lamont, you’re getting on my nerves right now because I actually like your voice so I would suggest you think about what I’m saying,” Simon said in a serious tone.

Lamont ended up walking off the stage after saying that he would “wait” and decide if he would come up with another song or not. Eventually, Lamont decided to learn another song in a short amount of time and then return to the stage. Simon assured Lamont that he and the judges do actually like him and his voice.

The musician began to play “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn but he couldn’t get a verse out before Simon interrupted him again to tell him to shake out his nerves and slow it down.

Lamont began again but this time he sounded smooth and soulful, you could actually see and hear the difference between this performance and his first. In the end, Simon gave him a standing ovation and Lamont said he “was humbled and honored” that the judges gave him a second chance.
