Siblings Save Brother Shortly After He Sneaks Into the Pool

A recent video has been shared online that shows the moment that a young girl leaped into a pool to rescue her 2-year-old brother. Bella, 9, and Priscilla, 6, were outside playing in their backyard when their little brother Maximus snuck outside and went straight for the pool. The video’s description said the incident occurred on Aug. 18, 2020, in Benicia, California.

The kid’s mother shared that she had brought the toddler inside to get him changed but walked away for a minute to grab his clothes. In the video, which looks to be filmed on a security camera, you can see the moment 2-year-old Maximus walks outside and climbs straight into the water.

For a moment, it looked as if the boy would be fine, but then he quickly moved to a deeper part of the pool, and his head disappeared under the water. Right away, Bella jumped into the pool to grab her brother. Once he was back safely on land, Priscilla wrapped a towel around him.

These young sisters saved their brother’s life that day and their mother couldn’t be more proud. However, she does admit that she should have immediately put the pool cover back on when the children stopped swimming. Everyone is just grateful that Bella and Priscilla were outside when it happened and that Maximus is safe and sound.

Drowning accidents in pools are most common for children under age 4. Max’s mom has shared that he has now started swim lessons to be sure he is always safe around water from now on. Keep reading to learn more about this story and to see the incredible video.

According to the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) website, “More children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects. Drowning can happen anytime, including when children are not expected to be near water, such as when they gain unsupervised access to pools.”

The CDC added: “Barriers such as pool fencing prevent young children from gaining access to the pool area without caregivers’ awareness. A four-sided isolation fence that separates the pool area from the house and yard reduces a child’s risk of drowning by 83% compared to three-sided property-line fencing (which encloses the entire yard but does not separate the pool from the house).”

In the video’s description, the children’s mother wrote: "My kids had just gone swimming, I brought my then 2-year-old inside to get dressed. I went to get his clothes and, before I realized it, he ran back outside. Thank god my then 9-year-old daughter Bella and 6-year-old daughter Priscilla were still outside and saw Maximus go into the pool.”

She continued, “Bella didn’t hesitate to jump in and pull her brother out, Priscilla got a towel and wrapped it around him. I came out shortly after and was so proud of my girls but also so upset at myself.”

Installing a fence or pool cover is a great way to avoid accidents like this in the future. The mom added, “I should have closed the pool and will always remember how close I came to losing my baby. Max is totally fine and he is taking swim lessons now. He will always remember when his big sister saved his life."
