In 2016, a then nine-year-old Synclair Rogers performed Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah at her school for a talent show. The Wilmington, North Carolina native was born with a condition called gastroschisis and had spent a month in the NICU.

The pin-drop silence in the room gave a testament to how much the crowd listened to Synclair’s every word as she sang. Her powerful voice kept getting stronger with every passing moment. Suddenly, Synclair hit some high notes so faultlessly and beautifully that the audience got wildly excited. Unwaveringly and seemingly oblivious of the excitement she caused, Synclair delivered a masterpiece.

Her voice was clear and confident, her poise assured, and she sang like she had been doing it all through her life. Synclair’s voice gave her a significant presence that was quite a contrast with her small body. Everyone's attention was glued on her. The alternating low and high notes left the audience awestruck that such a fantastic performance could originate from a very young girl.
