The hit movie “Black Hawk Down” made the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, a United States Army’s helicopter, one of the most quickly recognized aircrafts. So it is no wonder that seeing one on the road would surprise and shock everyone who was around to see it.

A group of motorists were in for a shock one day when they saw a Black Hawk land near them on a highway. Of course they all pulled out their phones to record the event and share it to the world. Who wouldn’t? It isn’t every day that you get to see one of these majestic aircrafts up close and personal.

The Black Hawk is known as a UTTAS, or Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System. It replaced the Bell UH-1 Iroquois in 1979. The helicopter was named after a war leader of the Native Americans and has a lot of different uses. For one, it is a tactical troop transport.

A Black Hawk helicopter unit came back from Afghanistan in late 2015 in order to go on a search-and-rescue mission in Alaska.

Fort Wainwright crews have since been around to provide civilian first responders with as much assistance as they can. This is due to an agreement that was reached with the Rescue Coordination Center, located out of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

John Pennell, an Army spokesman, talked to the Alaska Daily News about the agreement. He stated that they always have a crew that is ready to go and assist civilian first-responders with any demolitions, live-fire exercises, and anything else they need for. This gives first-responders a much-needed backup for when emergencies occur.

This particular video shows us the amazing moment that a Black Hawk helicopter came to assist in saving a life in Alaska. As it touched down on a remote highway, nearby drivers stopped to watch. It was truly an amazing sight to see.
