If you have pets, you probably see them as a part of your family. You can’t picture your life without them, and you spoil them with love, attention, and toys. But this isn’t the case for every pet that gets adopted into a family. Sometimes, families decide to get rid of a pet they previously thought they wanted. And when these pets get discarded, they end up in shelters with millions of other animals annually.

When Jordy the pup was brought to the shelter by his owners, it was a sad day. The family decided that they no longer wanted to take care of him, so they gathered his belongings that consisted of some toys, his blanket, and some food to drop him off.

Jordy was brought to the Carson Animal Shelter located in Gardena, California. The shepherd puppy, only a few months old, was clearly confused and wondered why he was abandoned without any familiar faces around him. The staff at the shelter saw Jordy’s emotions change as he withdrew into a shell of his former self with no energy.

The puppy was completely shut off emotionally, only getting up to eat or drink some water. He had no interest in playing or socializing due to the pain of being rejected by his family. Sadly, the stakes for Jordy were pretty high. His family dropped him off at a shelter with a high kill rate, meaning that if he didn't find a home in a few weeks, he would have been put to sleep in order to make room for more animals.

Jordy had a description on their website, stating that he was a 9 week old male German Shepherd puppy, with black and tan colors, in desperate need of a home before he faced the consequences. No puppy this young with so much life left ahead of them should be left crying themselves to sleep at night, wondering when they will be adopted. All dogs deserve homes with lots of toys, space to run around and unconditional love.

Thankfully, Jordy was eventually adopted by a loving family before his time was up at the shelter. However, this doesn't mean that all puppies like Jordy get a happy ending. Adopting animals from shelters instead of buying breeder puppies is a great way to make a difference in the world. These discarded animals need love more than you could ever imagine, and opening your heart and home to a shelter animal can change your life forever.
