Shelter Stops Woman From Adopting “Saddest Dog,” But She Refuses To Go Anywhere Without Him.

There are many stray dogs out there, but not all of them find a good shelter or family to give them a home.

The lucky ones find people who are ready and willing to adopt them. Such is the case of one stray dog called Benji.

The Story of Benji

It can be worrying when you move into a new area where you don't know anyone. It's especially so when past life experiences made you lose trust in people. Last year, Benji, a stray dog, was brought into an L.A. shelter.

However, the chances of anyone adopting him were slim. In addition to losing his fur to a flea infestation, he was scared of people. He would snap and snarl whenever anyone got close to him.

He was a very sad puppy, and this is what made Jessica William focus her attention on him when going through photos of shelters dogs ready for adoption. Jessica and Jared, her boyfriend, had just moved in together. All Jared wanted was to buy Jessica a dog as her birthday present. Although Jessica's birthday was months away, she needed to get Benji at that moment.

Denied the Chance

The story is amazing because the couple did everything they could to meet Benji. They lived almost 400 miles away in Sacramento.

This meant a long trip to the shelter, and they got there 6 hours later. Although Benji had been at this shelter for ten days, the adoption coordinators had not sealed his fate.

Jessica tried to tell them that all they came to get was Benji, but they tried to convince her not to get the puppy.

The shelter said that Benji was unfriendly. The shelter did not want to take Jared and Jessica to a place where they would meet him because they said he wasn't the type of puppy to come to them and be cuddly.

“We knew that he had a high possibility of being euthanized and didn’t want him to die.”

Since they were so determined, they left with Benji on that day. Most dogs get excited when they get a good home to go to, but Benji wasn't that enthusiastic.

When you show someone enough love and be consistent about it, they will eventually go along with it. This is exactly what the puppy did. Within a few days, he had transitioned from aloof and wary to playful and happy.

He now enjoys dining with the couple every day. He comes up to them licking their faces and also enjoys playing with the toys they got him. He does everything that a happy dog would do. Benji was lucky to have caught the eye of a kind couple like Jessica and Jared. They refused to give up on him, and that paid off.
