Dogs at the Portsmouth Humane Society have been offered the chance to spend this year’s Thanksgiving holiday in a warm home with a foster family.
The Portsmouth Humane Society in Portsmouth, Virginia, arranged a Foster for Thanksgiving program this year, which aimed to get the dogs at their shelter a foster home to spend the holiday.
The program was a success, with people reportedly lining outside of the shelter in order to take a furry friend home.

According to WTKR, the shelter arranged for the program in order to increase give exposure to their current dogs in the shelter to potential adopters while giving them a chance to spend the night in a home.
"To see all of those empty kennels and know that they are going to have a good Thanksgiving and get those little things that a lot of us take for granted - it is the greatest thing," an employee told the news outlet.
This isn’t the first time the shelter hosted the program. Last year, 13 dogs were sheltered on Thanksgiving, of which 11 ended up finding a forever home.
The dogs were picked up by foster families on Wednesday evening and will be returning on Monday.
