Shelter Dog Was Rejected 18,000 Times Before Landing Role In Hollywood Movie

Freya is a bulldog who became known as the "loneliest dog in the United Kingdom" after she was turned down by adoption 18,720 times while spending six years at Liverpool's Freshfields Animal Rescue after having arrived there when she was 6 months old. However, Freya dramatically rose from those humble beginnings to starring in "Transformers: The Last Knight," a multi-million-dollar blockbuster.

What had made her story so sad was that her chances of getting adopted continued to decrease as time passed, and she also had the double burden of suffering from epilepsy, which worsened her quality of life and also made her much less likely to be adopted. However, those working at that shelter soon realized how interesting her story was and began reaching out to media outlets to share that story of their "beautiful girl" who was "so loving and friendly."

An article in the Mirror set the stage for her eventual starring role on the big screen.

Michael Bay, the director of that "Transformers" movie, had seen the story, was immediately taken by it and wanted to give the adorable dog a starring role in his film and spread her story even further.

Freya ended up being the only dog who was on set for that movie and even got to star with Sir Anthony Hopkins in several scenes. Bay added at the time that if nobody adopted her after her time on set was over, he would do so himself. However, she did ultimately tug on Ray Collins' heartstrings, and he adopted the delighted dog.

Those at Freshfields Animal Rescue had also set up a Facebook page that they regularly updated with her story. Unfortunately, one of the last entries that they posted was this one: "We are devastated to announce our beautiful Freya has sadly been put to sleep."

This was posted on March 24, 2018, and went on to talk about how uncontrollable her epilepsy had turned out to be and spoke of how much she had meant to the staff there and to others throughout the world. They also said that they were so grateful that she got to spend two years in a home being "spoilt, loved and pampered like she deserved." Ray added that she was "a very happy and loving dog."
