Shelter Cat Still Looking For Adoptive Family After No One Shows Up To Her Birthday Party

The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in the UK threw a birthday party earlier this month for one of their rescues, two-year-old cat Monique in hopes it will help get her adopted as she has been at the shelter for almost four months.

Monique is a charming, fluffy tabby at the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, patiently waiting for her forever home. She’s soft, she’s furry, and she’s all alone at her birthday party. Worse yet, she’s alone on Valentine’s Day, which is the same time. Why? Because she isn’t ‘perfect’.

Monique has already been there more than five times longer than most other cats. After watching so many other kitties arrive and then quickly leave with loving families, she has been left behind, over and over.

The workers at the shelter decided to make her feel special and gave her what no other shelter cat got – a birthday party. Her Valentine’s birthday offered the perfect chance to show her off to a new potential family. Hopes were high that someone would give Monique the ultimate present: a new forever home.

Shelter employees and volunteers made a banner, set up decorations, invited the community, and waited excitedly.

But no one came. Monique sat under her bright pink birthday banner on her special green blanket, but no one scooped her up. The mini toy picnic table with its pretend cakes remained untouched. Her big green eyes looked around hopefully, but at the end of the day she was still a shelter cat.

So why hasn’t this lovely feline been adopted yet? Pet care workers and the Dogs and Cats Home believe many people are scared away because Monique has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a slow-acting virus that will still allow her to live a long, happy life of patting and purrs. It is not harmful to humans.

FIV is a condition that is easy to manage, but it means that Monique will need to be the sole pet in the home, soaking up all the attention herself. Adopters will also need to cat-proof their gardens, but Battersea can help with that.

Monique is young, playful, and cuddly, eager to be someone’s best friend. She likes to bat around cat toys, explore new discoveries, and curl up for some cheek rubs and chin scratches. Her only drawback is the virus, which won’t prevent her from being a wonderful pet.

If you or someone you know can finally give Monique the best birthday present ever, please reach out to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Would you adopt little Monique? Let us know in the comments – and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
