Shannon, known for her role on Little House on the Prairie, 90210, and her character as "Prue" on Charmed, underwent hormone therapy after she found out about her diagnosis in March of 2015. According to her appearance on Good Morning America, after therapy, she followed up with a mastectomy and eventually went through severe rounds of consecutive radiation and chemo.

In 2018 the star decided to undergo surgery to rebuild her breast. This reconstruction process is done by an innovative surgery called DIEP flap and it uses the patient's own tissue to achieve the rebuilding.

Almost four years after her initial diagnosis, Shannen took to Good Morning America to disclose that her cancer had returned.

The Heathers actress expressed that the evolution of her illness was "a bitter pill to swallow." Not only is Shannen struggling with Stage IV cancer, but she also disclosed in her interview how she is currently in a lawsuit against State Farm.

The Hollywood actress is suing the giant insurance company after her home was damaged in the 2018 California wildfires. Shannen said that she feared her health issues would become a topic in court, and so she would prefer to disclose the information on her own agenda.

Despite having cancer, the 48-year-old was still working on a reboot of the Beverly Hills 90210 show while wanting to keep her diagnosis secret. Shannen had decided to not let her cancer get in the way of her work.
