Shannen Doherty Gives Update On Ongoing Battle With Stage 4 Breast Cancer – Says ‘It’s Not Easy’

Shannen Doherty, 48, revealed early in February that she is battling stage IV cancer, just three years after going into remission. 

The actress has now given an update on her struggle through her Instagram profile, where she said she is “taking care of [her]self and embracing everyday.”

In an appearance on Good Morning America last month, Doherty revealed she has been battling stage 4 cancer for the past year. The announcement came just three years after doctors declared her cancer-free. Doherty was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission two years later. 

“It’s going to come out in a matter of days or week that I am Stage 4, my cancer came back and that’s why I am here,” Doherty said on GMA. 

“It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” she added “I'm petrified. I'm pretty scared.”

This week, however, Doherty took to social media to tell fans that despite her diagnosis, she is still going strong – and she has a great support system to keep her going. 

The 48-year-old posted a photo of herself in sporty attire with two other friends of hers, who she says are helping her push through.

“After a year of dealing with cancer coming back and other stresses, I’m back at it,” she captioned the photo. “Taking care of myself and embracing every day. It’s not always easy. I have days I’m depressed or just plain lazy. But I push [through] with the help of friends.”

Doherty also gave details on how her friends have been helping her maintain a healthy lifestyle and encourage her to keep on going. 

“@annemkortright has been relentless in getting me to hike and learning new ways to cook that feed my soul as well as my tummy but in a very healthy way,” she wrote.” 

“She along with @cheforen @maliburadkitchen have made cooking healthy fun and sustainable. If that wasn’t enough.... Annemarie brought in @kirastokesfit to kick my butt yesterday! It’s been a productive great week. I feel better,” Doherty added. “My skin is alive and so am I.”
