The Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain, is currently estimated to have a net worth of $400 million. She has sold over 100 million albums and won hundreds of awards. However, Shania Twain didn't always have it so good.

Her parents died in a car crash

The most devastating blow to her life happened when she was just 21. Both of her parents were killed in a tragic car crash. In addition to Shania Twain, they were survived by her three younger siblings, who were 13, 14, and 18 at the time. Shania Twain had to support them and raise them all by herself. She opened up about the experience to CBC:

"It was a very, very difficult time. But it was also a turning point in my life that, I think, matured me, brought me up to where I should have been in the first place at that age."

Her siblings moved in with her after the crash and she supported them by singing. At that time in her life, Shania Twain, who was born Eilleen Regina Edwards, had not yet achieved success and was singing at various low-paying gigs and sometimes touring with a cover band.

According to E News, she signed with a recording studio several years later but her first album, released when she was 28, did not have much commercial success. It wasn't until her second album, The Woman in Me, was released two years later that she finally made it big and also started to make real money off her singing career.

By that time, her siblings had reached maturity and were supporting themselves. Shania Twain has said that she regrets that her parents weren't ever able to experience her success.
