Losing a spouse in never easy, but losing one to a tragic accident makes it even more difficult. That's the reality that Katie Swantek of Omaha has had to face every day since May.

In May 2019, while on a kayaking trip with her firefighter husband of four years Brett, the kayak overturned taking Katie's beloved husband along with it. It took 10 days to recover Brett's body reports KSNB.

It's no wonder why Katie's wedding is such a special memory for her. She endures countless reminders of that beautiful day all the time as she raises the couple's son on her own.

One particularly heart wrenching reminder came a few months after Brett's passing, when Katie was clearing out an old closet. Tucked away in the back in a large box was none other than Katie's wedding dress.

The bereaved bride pulled the dress out and put it on only to discover that it still fit like a glove. Even though it pained her to wear it, she couldn't take the dress back off so she sat alone on her couch for the remainder of the day watching her old wedding video and reminiscing about the last time she wore it.

While sitting in her wedding dress a flashback to an old "Friends" episode came to Katie's mind. The episode originally aired in 1998 and featured the characters Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe sitting on the couch in wedding dresses together, eating popcorn and discussing their failed love lives.

Then an idea suddenly came to Katie. If getting a bunch of girlfriends together to wear wedding dresses and vent to each other worked for the women on the show, maybe it could cheer her up as well.

Katie's friends were happy to oblige, with seven of them donning their old wedding dresses for a fun-filled day of taking pictures with the same photographer that captured Katie and Brett's big day.

Although some of the wedding dresses didn't fit the same, the day was still special to Katie and now she has a fun memory to look back on when thinking about her wedding dress.
