Serena Williams Is a Mother, Goddess, And A Champion — Her French Open Outfit Proves It

The 2019 French Open just started and power-athlete Serena Williams is already making waves. However, people aren’t talking about her performance on the court, but what she’s wearing.

Forbes reports that last year at the French Open her bodysuit was banned by officials, a controversial move since it was made to help her prevent blood clots after the birth of her daughter. In another bold fashion move at the Open, perhaps in reaction to last year’s ban, Serena stepped out in a miniskirt and crop top by Virgil Abloh for Nike.

The ensemble also included a mesh bodysuit underneath and a jacket that looked like a superhero cape. It was fitting because of the French words emblazoned on the outfit: Mother, Champion, Queen, and Goddess (Mère, Championne, Reine, Déesse).

Her neon Nike shoes were also designed by Abloh, who is the men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton.

Serena’s fashion choices certainly stand out from the other players at tennis tournaments, but it was last year’s bodysuit that some thought was too much.

According to Forbes, French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli said "I think that sometimes we've gone too far… It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place."

Oh, and in this year’s head-turning ensemble, she won the match, reports the BBC.
