What would you give up to save a stray dog? For one man in Serbia, the answer was everything. Of course, he's saved more than just one dog. Sasha Pesic is a modern hero, and his story will absolutely amaze you.

A Nightclub Owner with a Heart

Before he became a hero, Shasa Pasic was a nightclub owner in Nis, Serbia. He had plenty of money and was living the dream - or at least, one kind of dream. Soon, he'd be living a very different one.

One day, Sasha visited the local rubbish dump. While he was there, he saw a dog with a broken leg. He fed the dog and planned to check on him the next day. When Sasha returned to the dump, he noticed even more dogs. Puppies were playing in the trash, and older strays were looking for food. Sasha soon found himself feeding and monitoring over 50 dogs. Neighbors and city workers started to complain about the dogs. They threatened Sasha, and there was talk of killing the many stray pups. Sasha knew he had to do something immediately.

Sasha's Shelter

Sasha found a large patch of land outside Nis. He bought the land and relocated all of his charges. People heard about the shelter, and soon even more dogs joined his growing family. Sasha's shelter holds around 750 dogs at a time. Some are strays, some have been abused, and some are wounded or crippled. Sasha feeds and loves every single one of them.

Big Hearts Around the World

Taking care of the dogs meant that Sasha couldn't keep working at the night club. Sasha was almost out of money and thinking about selling the shelter. But then, a reporter published an article about his dogs. Support and donations started flowing in. It takes around $18 a month to care for each of the dogs. That amounts to a monthly bill of $13,500. Thanks to the support of friendly people around the world, Sasha is able to make the payments and keep his shelter afloat.

Over a Decade of Success

Since he started the shelter in 2008, Sasha has saved over 1100 dogs and has found homes for at least 400. The dogs at the shelter are happy, but every dog is looking for a good home. Many of the people who donate to Sasha's Shelter end up adopting one of the dogs. They're happy, healthy, and full of love - and it's all thanks to the amazing work that Sahsa does. This one-man has saved so many lives and brought love to so many homes. If his story hadn't gone viral, who knows what would have happened.
