Do you think you would be able to remember how to precisely follow a series of steps to a dance move 75 years from now? This may seem almost impossible to some, but it came easily to 93-year-old Jean Phelps Veloz.

At the recent National Jitterbug Championship, attendees were going to be entertained by an old video clip of a young woman doing the jitterbug with two partners. The footage was captured during World War II, and the woman’s two partners were a Navy sailor and an Army soldier. Her moves were captivating, but the audience’s attention was diverted to a trio that walked out on stage while the video was playing.

In the video clip, 19-year-old Jean Phelps Veloz performed a series of memorable dance moves that are still performed by others today. When Jean walked out on the stage 75 years later accompanied by two male dancers, she perfectly performed every dance step live for the audience. Every step was completed flawlessly, and the audience went wild.

The video clip was from a 1943 film called Swing Fever, and it notably featured Jean along with numerous cameo appearances from some of the hottest names in Hollywood at the time. She appeared as a dancer in several other films as well, including a short film called Groovie Movie. This movie is a swing dance sensation, and many of today’s dancers study it closely to mimic Jean’s steps. Jean got started as a dancer in Hollywood by winning a dance contest at the American Legion Stadium in the early 1940s.

Jean later went on to marry another dancer, Frank Veloz, but she continued dancing throughout her long and happy life. In fact, she recently danced in front of a studio audience on NBC’s Little Big Shots and continues to entertain audiences with her moves today. By her huge smile at the end of her performances, it is clear that she takes great pride in sharing her skills with others.
