If you have ever had the pleasure of spending time around a rescue dog, you are familiar with the resilience they possess.

You may also be aware that animals who have suffered mistreatment in the past can still be devoted companions to humans.

St. Bernards are one breed that tends to live up to their names. These enormous canines are called the "genial giant" by the American Kennel Club. The organization also describes the average member of the breed as both powerful and muscular.

There is one older St. Bernard who goes by the name of Old Lady. She has proven to be anything but average. In fact, many that know Old Lady would describe her as quite an extraordinary dog. The 10-year-old St. Bernard has spent a large part of her life in a Wisconsin puppy mill, reported Fox. The life she lived at the puppy mill was both brutal and filled with challenges. However, the experience helped forge the tenacity that has made Old Lady a favorite on the internet.

The local news, WHIO, reports Old Lady once spent 17 days of winter completely alone during one of the worst winter storms in Minnesota history.

The ordeal began when Old Lady ran away from a foster home at the beginning of January. The dog then became lost somewhere near Zimmerman, Minnesota. Workers at Ruff Start Animal Rescue sprang into action and searched for Old Lady. One social media post by Ruff Start informed the public that the rescue was making phone calls, posting fliers and forming search parties to find the dog. The rescue also cautioned the public not to do anything to startle Old Lady if they see her.

A man and his two grandsons were taking a walk in a wooded area one day when they came upon a brown dog who was extremely lean. They reported their find to Ruff Start, and sure enough, the dog the men found was Old Lady. The leash Old Lady wore became tangled in some brush and she was unable to free herself. It was a miracle the dog still clung to life. She was frostbitten and completely emaciated.

Old Lady was taken back to the rescue where she received the medical attention and love she needed to recover. A video was released by Ruff Start showing the amazing recovery she made. It is obvious in the video that her energetic and inquisitive nature still remained.

Old Lady's story keeps getting better. The media attention caused by her ordeal brought her the attention of a kind woman who offered a permanent home to Old Lady. Ruff start explained via social media the woman will become the foster parent of Old Lady until a full adoption is made. The rescue also says the woman is assisting in making sure the dog regains all the health and vigor she possessed before.
