Most dogs have the urge to run when they get outside. It can be hard for them to resist all of what nature has to offer. They may take off after a squirrel, jump into a nearby stream, or simply run and jump in the fresh air.

Sometimes a sense of adventure trumps being obedient. This was the case for Kensey, an elderly dog who decided to run off one morning.

She found herself in a bit of trouble that she couldn’t get out of. Thankfully for her, someone spotted the wayward pooch before it was too late.

There are a couple of breeds, such as the Labrador retriever and golden retriever that love the water. Kensey is a golden retriever who fits the bill perfectly. She is a sweet 12-year-old dog that ended up having too much of an adventure one day!

No one knows whether she did it on purpose or not, but according to FOX4, Kensey ended up in a canal after being let outside to do her business.

Her owners spent three frantic hours searching everywhere for the elderly dog, with no luck. They even had kayaks in the canal looking for her. Finally, a neighbor happened to spot Kensey and called the local fire department.

They arrived and began to help pull the cold and frightened dog from the water. Many neighbors believe that it wasn’t a moment too soon. No one really knows just how long she was in the canal, but we are happy she was able to swim and stay afloat.

Cape Coral Fire Department posted to their social media page that Engine 9 helped to reunite Kensey with her owners. Many neighbors commented that they were so happy that the story had a happy ending. One neighbor said that when they spotted Kensey swimming in the canal, she looked very tired and listless.

Many believed it was a miracle that the elderly dog didn’t drown in the canal.

We would certainly like to thank Cape Coral Fire Department for their quick response time and loving rescue. Who knows what would have happened if they had not shown up in time?

We really hope that Kensey always stays close to her owners from now on! Do you have any stories you would like to share? Leave them in the comments and then pass this along!
