Dogs are kindhearted, intelligent animals. A dog trusts his human caretakers completely, returning all the attention and concern given by his or her owners with unconditional love.

Unfortunately, sometimes humans don’t repay that love, abusing their animals and betraying the trust given to them. In a story coming out of Chile, a train conductor foiled the evil plans of an animal abuser, giving a helpless dog a second chance at life.

According to Metro, as the conductor was going about his duties on a train in the town of Llay-Llay in San Felipe de Aconcagua Province, he noticed a shocking sight: a little black dog was chained to the train tracks up ahead. Moving into action, the conductor hit the locomotive’s emergency brake, the train stopping mere feet from the dog.

Stepping onto the tracks, the conductor was horrified by the scene. Taking out his cellphone, the conductor recorded the dog yelping and crying as he tried in vain to free himself from the chain. As the conductor helped remove the fetter from the dog’s neck, he shouted about how bad someone must be to do this to a helpless animal, pleading that one-day humanity will turn away from evil. After several minutes of work, the conductor was able to free the dog from his restraint, the animal later running into a nearby field.

The conductor’s video eventually went viral, being watched over 137,000 times on social media. Many who left comments on the post expressed disbelief that someone could be so cruel to an animal while also praising the conductor for his quick thinking and willingness to help the dog.

Reaction from authorities in Chile was also swift. Edgardo Gonzalez, the mayor of Llay-Llay, condemned the abuser in the strongest of terms, telling reporters that law enforcement had launched a criminal investigation into the incident.

Mayor Gonzalez also told of how the town was trying to find the abused dog to give him the medical attention he needs and find a way to get him into a good forever home.
