A parent is someone who cares for their children through thick and thin. It is one of the hardest, yet rewarding, jobs in the whole entire world. Unfortunately, not every parent thinks this. Some children are abandoned, neglected, and/or abused every day due to reasons outside of their control. This is bad parenting that will affect the child forever.

In the fictitious short film by Zsófia Zsemberi, "Gift", the story follows the journey of a young girl who is adopted by a loving family. The child grew up in a foster home for the majority of her life. She finally got the chance to be with a supportive family.

She took nothing with her except her doll. When she first arrived, everything seemed to be going well. Her newfound parents and big sister cared for her. They played games and went out together.

Slowly things started to change. The little girl felt pushed away by the family that promised to take care of her. Whether it was being left behind at a park or watching the family celebrate her sister's birthday, the dynamics began to shift.

The family, particularly the parents, ignored the little girl whenever she tried to get their attention. When she managed to be acknowledged, she was always yelled at or scorned.

In a grueling turn of events, the father takes the girl on a drive. They pull up on an abandoned road and get out of the car. He kneels down to talk to her. The audience can't hear what he says, but the girl clearly disagrees with the situation.

He takes her precious doll and chucks it far away from the car. She immediately runs to pick her doll up off the ground. The dad rushes into the car and drives away.

As he looks into the rearview mirror, the girl becomes a dog abandoned on the road with the doll.

The ending message says to be responsible and adopt pets wisely.

If you are planning to bring a pet into your home, make sure you are ready to take full responsibility for it. Pets aren't always easy to take care of.

When times get tough, don't just abandon your pet. Work through the problem like a responsible adult.
