Selena Gomez is a woman of many talents. Born on July 22, 1992, she was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla and grew up in Texas. She found fame early on with the children’s TV series “Barney & Friends,” in which she starred alongside former Disney friend Demi Lovato. Later, Gomez received widespread recognition and became a popular teen idol for her leading role as Alex Russo on the Disney series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which aired from 2007 to 2012.

Gomez has made waves in the entertainment world ever since, executive producing the series “13 Reasons Why” and starring alongside comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short in “Only Murders in the Building.” She also starred in her own cooking show titled “Selena + Chef.”

On top of that, Gomez is a wonderful singer and dancer, first forming the band Selena Gomez & the Scene during her Disney days before departing on a successful solo career. Some of her top-charting hits include “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” “Come & Get It” and “Lose You to Love Me.”

And while Gomez has proven to be a woman of many talents, she is also a very kind-hearted person, proving to be beautiful inside and out. She even launched her own makeup line, Rare Beauty, to help people embrace their natural beauty. The actress also is a strong advocate for mental health.

After being in show business for so many years, Gomez has unfortunately gotten used to people criticizing her every move, but the actress has had enough. Gomez is proving that she is “perfect” in her own right and is helping to change how we view beauty.

As a mental health advocate, Gomez has shared her personal stories relating to the issue over the years and has worked at trying to shape a better world for future generations. According to TODAY, she spoke up about how detrimental social media can be at a 2019 press conference.

“I would say for my generation, specifically, social media has really been terrible,” Gomez said. She expressed concerns for the younger generation, specifically about how children can be victims of cyberbullying. The actress also said that she started to be more careful about what she posts on social media but still worried that it would never be completely safe. “I think it’s pretty impossible to make it safe at this point,” Gomez explained.

Still, Gomez has done her best to make the world a better place. She has been vocal about her mental health struggles, opening up about her depression, anxiety and bipolar diagnosis. In April 2022, Good Morning America reported that Gomez launched a mental health platform called Wondermind alongside Daniella Pierson and Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey. The platform offers vetted experts, resources, tools and exercises to help individuals navigate mental health crises and improve their overall mental health. It’s not meant to be a replacement for therapy but rather an additive resource.

Gomez said she wanted to offer a safe place for people to “feel OK and to feel understood.” She continued, “I think it’s so important and I can’t stress it enough how much I care and how much I really, really want people to be understood, seen and heard.” The singer added:

“If I’m known for anything, I hope it’s simply just for the way I care about people.”

Along with having a beautiful heart, Gomez is a stunning woman. Back in September 2020, she launched her own makeup line titled Rare Beauty, which has expanded greatly since. According to Cosmopolitan, 1% of all sales have gone to The Rare Impact Fund, which helps with mental health services in underserved communities.

Gomez revealed that creating the line helped her feel more “confident,” as she aimed to help people embrace their natural beauty. However, that doesn’t mean that she’s strayed from being hard on herself, as netizens have critiqued her appearance over the years. Gomez said:

“I’ve gotten insecure. I also have lupus so I fluctuate in my weight a lot, so I’ve had to learn pretty early to have thick skin when it comes to this stuff and to understand that it doesn’t matter at all. It’s just hateful. It’s all it is.”

While Gomez is known for changing her look every now and then, switching from dark locks to blonde hair and trying out new fashion trends along the way, she has not been able to refrain from being a target of online trolls’ hate comments. However, Gomez has had enough.

In a since-deleted TikTok, the “Come & Get It” singer showed newfound confidence in her body image. In the video, she talked about how much she had eaten that day but said that it didn’t really matter since people would have an issue with her body size either way. According to Entertainment Online, Gomez said:

“But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people b*tch about it anyway. ‘You’re too small, you’re too big, that doesn’t fit. Meh meh meh meh.’ B*tch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye.”
