Security Footage Shows Hero Dog Leading Sanitation Worker To Senior Owner That Fell Down

After his 88-year-old owner fell and couldn't get up, Sandy the dog got the attention of a sanitation worker who had come to the home.

Dogs are valuable companions to human beings. It is not uncommon to come across stories of intelligent dogs that performed heroic acts. The ability of dogs to understand verbal instructions makes them quite useful in emergencies.

Additionally, the bond between a dog and its owner can be quite enriching and, at times, life-saving. A fantastic example of a beautiful dog-human companionship is between the elderly Gwendola Johnson and her faithful dog Sandy.

88-year-old Gwendola Johnson lives in Glendale, California, with her brown-haired dog known as Sandy. As KIRO7 reported, Gwendola adopted Sandy eleven years ago. Sandy was a stray dog. One sunny day, Gwendola tripped and fell on the porch as she was walking outside the house.

The elderly lady could not move and was unable to reach the phone to call for help. She only had Sandy by her side. Gwendola laid immobile for about an hour until she noticed a man wearing a neon green top walking up the steep path. Unfortunately, her voice could not reach the man. Neither could the man see her.

According to KTLA5, the man was Kirk White, an employee of Glendale Integrated Waste Management. Kirk was in the process of moving the trash bins when Gwendola noticed him. She knew that she had to get Kirk’s attention. Kirk was her only hope of rescue. Gwendola told Sandy to go and get Kirk.

Sandy understood the command and quickly ran in the direction of Kirk. Sandy barked incessantly at Kirk, who was holding the bins, ready to walk away.

Being an observant and intuitive person, Kirk noticed several things. He noted that Sandy was not where he usually found him inside the house by the window. Kirk also observed that Sandy was not offensive when barking at him. Instead, Kirk concluded that Sandy was trying to get his attention to an issue somewhere within the compound.

Kirk let go of the trash cans and followed Sandy. It is then that Kirk came upon Gwendola lying on the ground, unable to move. Gwendola’s relief was tremendous. Kirk helped her get up and made sure that she was not injured. Kirk was pleased that he was able to do such a remarkable deed for Gwendola.

Kirk says that we should all endeavor to help those who are in need. Kirk was happy that he could correctly interpret Sandy's efforts to get his attention to Gwendola. Kirk hopes to have a dog like Sandy after the heartwarming experience at Gwendola’s home.

Gwendola’s granddaughter and other family members shed tears of joy and gratitude on learning about the rescue experience. The family watched the video of Sandy getting Kirk's attention as recorded by the doorbell cam. The granddaughter assured Kirk of always having friends at her grand mother’s home.

Gwendola’s granddaughter is grateful that Kirk investigated Sandy’s actions, something that other people would ignore. Gwendola describes Sandy as a faithful companion who never leaves her side. The fantastic rescue experience has touched the hearts of many people. Gwendola’s granddaughter asserts that there are two heroes in the story, Sandy and Kirk.

The rescue story illustrates just how strong the partnership between a dog and its owner can be. Gwendola rescued Sandy from the streets. Sandy paid it forward by getting help for her when she fell and could not get back up.

Kirk's timely response to Sandy's barking only warms everyone's heart even more. Everyone now agrees that they should get a dog like Sandy. A dog like Sandy is indeed a human being's best companion.
