Scotty McCreery Performed 'The Dance' Cover For Those Who’ve Loved Others

As the 10th winner of American Idol, Scotty McCreery has already shown off his vocal talents. But in this clip of a performance he did at the Grand Ole Opry in 2012, in which he covers country legend Garth Brooks' song The Dance, we really get to hear his voice shine.

As the video begins, Scotty McCreery is on stage talking to the audience. He looks so baby faced because he's actually only 19-years-old here, however, the performance was still after he won American Idol at the tender age of 17! What an incredible talent, at so young an age.

He entertains the audience with a little story about seeing Garth Brooks perform live in Las Vegas, and the crowd erupts in cheers after he asks if there are any Garth Brooks fans in the house.

But when he starts singing the song, the depth and maturity of his voice come through, as his "old school" vocal style shines. The slow ballad is the perfect song for his powerful vocals, while a backing band helps to add the perfect musical accompaniment.

Originally released in 1990 by Garth Brooks, The Dance is considered to be the musician's signature song. While on the surface it appears to be a song about love gone wrong, The Dance actually has a double meaning.

For the song's music video, Garth Brooks introduced this meaning. As reported by Wide Open Country, at the beginning of the music video, he states: "To a lot of people, I guess The Dance is a love gone bad song. Which, you know, that it is. But to me it's always been a song about life. Or maybe the loss of those people that have given the ultimate sacrifice for a dream that they believed in, like the John F. Kennedys or the Martin Luther Kings. John Waynes or the Keith Whitleys. And if they could come back, I think they would say to us what the lyrics of The Dance say."

What a special song that it can have two such deeply powerful meanings. Brooks' original version is undoubtedly an iconic country song, but Scott McCreery's live version is just as incredible. Both singers have strong voices that never fail to make us feel something.

Scotty McCreery's success has continued long after his American Idol win, with the talented young superstar taking home various awards since then. These include "Artist of the Year: New Artist" at the American Country Awards in 2011 and the "Best New Artist" at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2012. He's also won at the CMT Music Awards and the BMI Country Awards.

At just 26 years of age, Scotty McCreery has achieved so much already, and he truly deserves it. We can't wait to see more of what this talented young man has in store further in his career.
