Scientists Reveal 12 Surprising But True Signs To Tell Whether Someone Is Intelligent Or Not

Aug 23, 2018 by apost team

It is common for scientists to debate over what they believe are the important factors that determine whether or not someone is intelligent. Other individuals seeking to answer the same question prefer to participate in research that is more in-depth to further understand all factors of influence. Some factors pursued include seeking to understand how someone’s conduct and appearance impact a person’s level of intellect.

The conclusions reached by researchers have been in some ways unanticipated. Surprisingly, your physical features such as your eye color, height, weight and finger length can indicate the level of your intelligence. Here we are going to reveal to you 12 indicators of intelligence you can look for in a person. How many of them match you?

1. Spending time alone is much more enjoyable than spending it in a group setting.

Intelligent people can have just as much fun alone as they can with friends. Norman Li and Satoshi Kanazawa conducted research that socializing proved to be more tiring to intelligent people than it did when enjoying time alone. Talking out loud to themselves is also common among intelligent people. This should not be thought of as crazy. Instead, it should be embraced as an indicator of a high level of intelligence.

2. You started reading at a very young age.

Learning how to read at a young age does not automatically show your level of intelligence. Robert Plomin, Stuart J. Richie and Timothy C. Bates are all British scientists. They each believe that the act of reading causes a child’s level of intellect to be raised. It is clear that as you learn and study the alphabet at a young age you are able to read more books that challenge your mind to open up to new and innovative thoughts. The same thing will happen for those who are actively reading a wide variety of book genres and authors.

3. Being the oldest child.

It has been proven by scientists at the Edinburgh University that the older siblings are known to have a higher IQ by at least three points. This advantage is not a result of genetic and biological factors. Instead, it is due to the psychological contact that takes place between the child and parent.

4. Your height as an indicator

Christina Paxson and Anne Case completed a Princeton study that revealed the advantage that taller children have over shorter children. In this study, those that were taller scored higher on IQ tests and performed better into adulthood. If you watch in early childhood, you can notice this as well. Three-year-olds that grow fast perform better on IQ tests than their shorter friends.

5. As a child you attended a school for music.

Glen Schellenberg conducted a study in which children with a history of attending music lessons of two types performed higher on IQ tests than did students who participated in drama only classes or no activities at all. Schellenberg believes that as a result of having a high IQ, the children were interested in learning music.

6. Obesity is not something you suffer from.

A study done in 2006 emphasized the connection between both cognitive functions and body mass index. Lower IQs showed up in those who had a body mass index that was above average. Data was examined by French scientists over the course of five years. As a result of the research, they came to the conclusion that the circumference of the waist was directly related to how high or low IQ levels would be.

7. Working out isn’t a fun task.

Two scientists from America, David L. Dickinson, and Todd McElroy, concluded that those who are busy using their intellect during work have less time to be physically active. On the contrary, individuals whose work does not require as high a level of cognitive thinking have more time to spend working out. Activities like chess are much more preferred for individuals who are intellectually advanced. You must learn to balance your life in order to maintain good health.

8. Your eyes are blue.

University of Louisville professor, Joanna Rowe, suggests that high IQs are prevalent in those with blue eyes as opposed to individuals with dark eyes. However, those with darker eyes have their own strengths as well. It is believed that people with darker eyes are great at responding above average when a fast reaction time is needed. Those with blue eyes do well with handling challenging situations that require concentration and rational decision making.

9. You have a high sensitivity to the sounds around you.

Everyday sounds that you hear around you are often times distracting for those with high IQs. Research done by the University of Helsinki shows the linkage between an individual with a high IQ and the inability to ignore certain noises of the environment.

10. Your ring finger has grown to be longer than your index finger.

Karl Pinsk, a Norwegian physician observed that when a person’s ring finger is longer than the index, that person showed a high chance of being able to solve math problems. Verbal assignments, however, were much more challenging. Another researcher by the name of John Coates discovered something similar. He concluded that you could predict the state of someone’s finances by the length of their index finger. Those with a longer ring finger normally had a higher income.

11. You suffer from anxiety, or even panic attacks.

Two psychologists from Israel, Tsachi Ein-Dor, and Organ-Tal, concluded that people with high IQs are pessimistic and are always playing out bad situations that could possibly happen in the future within their heads. As a result of being familiar with examining the things that have happened in the past, smart people tend to pay much more attention to the possibilities of the future.

12. Swear words are a big part of your vocabulary.

As bizarre as this may sounds, the use of profanities can inform you of someone’s intellect. In the past the use of abusive words was thought to be used mainly by those with minimal education. Studies now show that those with more education will more than likely use profanities.

Do you have any of these traits? Remember, these indicators may not be accurate indications in intelligence in everyone, but they're certainly a place to start. Do you think they're accurate?
