Scientists Have Released A Study That Suggests That The Higher Number Of Children A Mother Has, The Slower Her Aging Process Becomes

Most women believe that the more children they have, the more they will age. Who could blame them?

If you are a mother, then you know the stress that comes with taking care of a family. Your hair may be turning a shade of gray you aren’t happy with, your frown lines are becoming more prominent, and you seem to lose energy every single day.

More kids would certainly make things worse, right?

Maybe not, according to a study done in 2016. This study is just now gaining attention due to its suggestion that having more children actually slows down aging for a woman. Researchers at Simon Fraser University are credited with this information.

They examined the relationship between the number of children a woman has and the body’s aging pace. Their findings were very different than what most people would think!

The study looked at the woman’s telomeres to determine the length. Telomeres are a protective ending on our DNA strands. If you have longer telomeres, then you may enjoy a longer life. This is because your cells in your body will still replicate. Shortened telomeres are an indication of aging, disease, poor diet, and stress.

The study focused on 75-woman in rural Guatemalan communities over a 13-year time period. Each woman had DNA samples taken twice during the study.

Professor Pablo Nepomnaschy, one of the lead scientists in the study, stated that he believes that the estrogen levels of a woman play a very important role in the preservation of telomeres. According to Nepomnaschy, women with a lengthier pace of telomere shortening also have more children.

This could be due to how much more estrogen is produced when a woman is pregnant. The extra estrogen serves as a powerful antioxidant that can protect the cells against telomere shortening, therefore lengthening her life.

He was also quick to point out that this particular group of women also had more support when it came to child-rearing. They had the support of their family, community, and friends, something that not all mothers have.

Because of this support, the women in the study had a better metabolism, another factor that could possibly slow down the aging process.
