For Kaylee Suders, her senior year was off to a solid start, and she was excited to embark upon her senior year, with all its milestones.

Her love life was also blossoming. Her once-great-friend, Carter, had turned into something more, and romance united the couple more than ever. While now a freshman in college, Carter still managed to make time for Kaylee, still a senior in high school, even promising to take her to her Senior Prom.

Carter remained committed to following through on his promises to Kaylee. Sadly, as he drove back home one early morning to surprise her, tragedy dealt a most-merciless hand. Carter, having fallen asleep on his early drive, lost his life in a devastating accident. Kaylee lost her beloved boyfriend, and Carter's parents lost their second son in less than a year, leaving both Kaylee and Carter's parents in a deep well of grief.

In the time that followed their loss, Carter's mom, Kelly, overheard Kaylee being asked about prom. Kaylee, still overcome with grief, had replied that she would no longer be going to her Senior Prom.

Carter's mom, however, knew that Kaylee had, months before, picked out her dress and had been looking forward to prom for quite a while. She also knew that her departed son would have wanted Kaylee to have her Senior Prom experience. This was when Carter's dad, Rob, had the idea to take her--that is, if she would accept his offer.

The next day, Carter's dad sought permission from the school's principal to take Kaylee to prom. The haunting reason was enough for the school's principal to immediately grant permission.

With the school's blessing, Carter's dad, Rob, asked the tearful Kaylee to prom. Unhesitatingly, Kaylee knew this was the way to honor Carter and his earlier promises.

Carter's dad and mom, Rob and Kelly, and Kaylee prepared for the big day. Having lost their second son, Carter's parents found comfort in preparing for Kaylee's Senior Prom, from coordinating Rob's tuxedo to Kaylee's dress to washing the car for the big day.

Kelly found solace in her husband's actions, saying "I've learned that when you do something that's hard out of love for someone else, you gain strength. And I've been reminded that I still have the best husband in the world."

During this tragic time, we hope they continue to get all the support, love, and strength they can as they continue to move through their grief.
