In 2019, Dallas, Texas beloved bus driver Curtis Jenkin was awarded a brand new car and a job promotion. He now gives talks on how to have better student relationships.

Children come under the care of school management immediately they leave home for school. It’s upon every school staff member to ensure that these school kids get enough guidance, opportunities, and protection during their time in school. One bus driver who wears a work badge from Lake Highlands Elementary, known as Curtis Jenkins, very well understands this responsibility.

When listing his priorities and important things in life, Curtis Jenkins includes his school bus driving job.

While some people might go the wrong road to belittle a school bus driving job, Jenkins wears that badge with the utmost honor. He views the opportunity from a fresh perspective and converts it into the perfect way possible to brighten up the kids’ days.

According to CBS, the high-spirited school bus driver allocates two times a day, five times a week, to talk to the kids and spend some quality time with them.

According to the Lake Highlands Elementary Principal, Emily Grunninger, who notices Jenkins's efforts, says,

“He goes way beyond the outlined tasks and duties of a school bus driver. That bus is like a family.”

The kids are always looking forward to the school bus drives with Jenkins. During these engagements with the children, Jenkins assigns every one of them a role, such as administrative assistants and police officers. Speaking from the megaphone, Jenkins hands out the best advice asking the children to be their brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.

It might seem like a really insignificant lesson, but Jenkin understands that it’s the little things that matter. His advice and lessons are instrumental in equipping children with insightful community-building guidance.

What’s even more intriguing about this unsung hero is that he takes extra effort into offering gifts to the children. The gifts go into letting the children know that he appreciates them all. Jenkins has taken the time to study every one of the kids and often gifts every one of them a personalized award. For example, if he notices that a kid loves to play baseball, Jenkin comes through with a baseball-based gift!

On one lovely occasion, he awarded a t-shirt to a girl. It wasn’t just one plain t-shirt, but he took the extra effort to print out her face on it! It only gets better with Jenkins doing the most. The driver has awarded backpacks, bikes, and other goodies to his student passengers despite noting that the price of these gifts could easily exceed thousands of dollars.

Although the kids appreciate Jenkin’s efforts in offering them gifts, they tend to love him more for who he is and how good he has been to them.

One sixth-grader, Ethan Ingle, from Lake Highlands Elementary, where Jenkins is the school bus driver, said in an interview, “Jenkins helps anyone in need. My dad and mom got divorced when I was only four. Curtis is the father that I always wanted. In many ways, I wish my dad could have been like that.”

Jenkin’s selfless actions moved viewers from the CBS Evening News, where his good deeds were showcased. Who wouldn’t love what he does for the kids? The story got to one of the viewers who were impressed with his efforts and went the extra mile to contact the school. It was Jenkins’ time to receive a reward.

In conjunction with the viewer, the school organized an event where they would surprise Jenkins with a brand new vehicle.

While he didn’t do good to be rewarded, Jenkins was humbled enough that someone thought of awarding him. Not only did he get a car, but Jenkins was also promoted and awarded with a special position apart from driving the school bus. The school wanted him to teach other staff members on how to build good relationships with students.

The progress in Jenkins’ life was documented on YouTube, together with his efforts gathering the credits to go viral. The video has garnered thousands of likes and comments, all admiring Jenkins’ efforts and kind heart.

Without a doubt, Jenkins is the perfect epitome of the Good Samaritan, doing good without expecting anything back. What have you learned from Jenkins? Feel free to spread these lessons by Jenkins to your friends and family.
