Nov 27, 2020 by apost team

Scarlett Johansson is notorious for keeping her personal life private. To this day, not many people know that she was once married to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and even fewer know that she is a twin. That’s right, the Black Widow has a twin brother! And despite being fraternal twins, they look alike. Read on to see for yourself.

Scarlett Johansson was married for three years to Ryan Reynolds, who, like Scarlett, plays a Marvel character. Despite being a celebrity couple, the two were only photographed together in public a handful of times. On why she keeps her personal life on the down-low, she says:

“My favorite actors are actors who are enigmatic and mysterious and never make the obvious choice in terms of the projects they do or who they work with or their craft.” She explains that the less she knows about an actor, the more it allows for their own persona to slip away and that helps her to get really immersed in the character that they are playing.

“The more that people think they know about your personal life, the more difficult it becomes to preserve that,” she added.

While Scarlett became interested in the world of show business from a very early age (she was nine years old when she filmed her first movie, according to Vanity Fair), her twin and literal other-half Hunter Johansson embarked on a different journey. Before we learn more about the less famous twin, let’s take a quick look at the incredible Scarlett.

In an interview with ABC News in 2014, Scarlett shared that she grew up watching “a lot of musicals and films with Judy Garland.”

“I just escaped into them and I wanted to be a musical theatre actor. I was singing then, when I was seven or eight so I sang Bali Ha’i from the Broadway musical South Pacific,” said the actress, who won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress for a debut on Broadway in A View from the Bridge 2010. The win helped land her role as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and subsequently the other Marvel installments which catapulted her to being the world’s highest-paid actress.

According to Biography, Scarlett and Hunter Johansson were born on November 22nd, 1984, in New York City. The 36-year-olds are both Danish and American citizens, as their father, an architect, is originally from Denmark.

As a twin, Hunter naturally shares a close bond with Scarlett. But he is also close to her other family members: ”Family is so important to me, it’s my guiding light,” Hunter shared on an episode of The Impossible Network podcast in January. “We're a really tight unit, it’s just such an important part of my life. People often ask me like ’so what do you do for fun?’. I hang out with my family,” he revealed.

When Scarlett fell into depression following her divorce from Reynolds, it was Hunter and their grandmother Dorothy who supported and comforted her.

Hunter dabbled in acting for a bit, starring alongside Scarlett in the 1996 movie Manny & Lo. But he had different dreams as a child. He wanted to be a brain surgeon, then, later on, pursued his passions of photography in Nature. As a child, Hunter was fascinated by the big trees in Central Park, and he was also very curious about the rats and their way of life in New York City. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics from the University of Vermont and a Masters in Non-Profit Management from New York University.

His heart for community work led him to intern as a community organizer for Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer’s office in New York City, according to Observer. He would go on to work on the presidential campaign and reelection of former President Barack Obama in 2008. Impressive or what?

Now he works full-time in community work and is the co-founder and CEO of Solar Responders. He started the organization with a mission to save lives through his renewable energy after meeting Captain Richard Birt, Las Vegas-based fire captain, who is also the co-founder.

During the podcast, Hunter discussed his NGO’s mission to help those who were affected by the 2017 hurricane in Puerto Rico and talked about his vision to extend renewable energy to places that are prone to hurricanes.

Scarlett wanted to support her twin, and so she donated money to Solar Responders’ project in Puerto Rico to put up a second set of solar panels last year. “I’m so proud. My family saw the visions, they saw how important this was,” he said.
