Animals rights organizations across the nation have long been targeting dogfighting rings as one of the most inhumane and gruesome sports that still exists. Dogfighting is currently a crime in all states across the nation, however, the wealth and position that comes with hosting a successful dogfighting ring may be too attractive for some people.

These fights are still being held illegally across the nation and some people go to extreme measures to stay undetected by the law and government. As animal rights organizations and activists become more familiar with the inner workings of a dogfighting ring and the industry, the authorities and federal forces can track down such activity more easily than before.

Several rescues from dogfighting rings have occurred over the past few years. These dogs, however, suffer from chronic PTSD and severe injuries, as per The Humane Society of The United States. They are generally given intense rehabilitation and find a better life within new families.

Mr. Breakfast had gone through several adoptions in his time at the rescue shelter, all of which were unsuccessful. After hearing that he had gone through so much, Liz decided to give him a new family.

Mr. Breakfast had been in the foster home for years after he was rescued from a dogfighting ring, as The Dodo reported. While he already required special care, his appearance was not any help in having him successfully adopted. His ears were cropped due to ear docking, a procedure done by the owners of fighting dogs. Ears are generally cut short in order to prevent other dogs from fatally ripping them off during dogfights.

His appearance may have been a bit intimidating, but that did not stop Liz from realizing that Mr. Breakfast was not as tough as he seemed. One challenge that she faced in keeping him was that he had plenty of behavioral issues.

Of course, this was understandable because he had been trained to be highly aggressive and was not given any domestic training.

Liz had to find ways to properly train Mr. Breakfast although he was deaf. Thankfully, Liz had worked with deaf dogs before and had several tricks up her sleeve.

She communicated with Mr. Breakfast through sign language, a form of communication that Mr. Breakfast was already familiar with. Although he knew some of the signing, he still expressed uncertainty and a bit of distrust towards his new owner.

Liz had to find another method and an idea came quite quickly: surfing. Liz decided that surfing classes would help ease Mr. Breakfast into her new family. Liz comments on this unconventional idea:

"We put the board in the water and he jumped right on. You know, he didn't ride beautifully, but he definitely stayed on it enough."

There are several videos of Mr. Breakfast riding his surfboard across the Internet. In these videos, it is clear that he has never had this much fun before. Liz claims that this experience was exactly what they needed. Mr. Breakfast has gained an incredible amount of confidence and has even grown to trust Liz a bit more.

"Our bond has started growing tighter and closer. There's definitely a trust there. Since we started surfing, communication has just skyrocketed."

Mr. Breakfast is now happier than he has ever been and living with his new family. What did you think about this story? Be sure to tell your friends and give us your opinions!
