Savannah Guthrie Breaks Silence On Mother’s Disappearance, Describes Unbearable ‘Agony’ Of Ordeal

Television presenter Savannah Guthrie broke her silence and spoke publicly for the first time about the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.

According to reports, on the night of Jan. 31, 2026, Nancy, 84, was dropped off at her home in Tucson, Arizona, but unusual activity occurred in the early morning hours, including her doorbell camera going offline, motion detected outside, and her pacemaker losing connection. When family members checked on her the next day after she missed church, she was gone. Investigators found blood in the home, confirmed to be hers, and noted that her phone and Apple Watch were left behind, making it highly unlikely she left voluntarily, given her limited mobility and need for daily medication.

Evidence suggested a possible abduction, including reports of a masked individual nearby and signs that security devices were tampered with or removed. Authorities have also received suspicious Bitcoin ransom messages, though their authenticity remains unclear, and some believe she may have been targeted due to her daughter’s public profile. Despite ongoing investigations involving federal and local agencies, no suspects have been publicly identified.

Almost two months after Nancy’s disappearance, her daughter, Savannah, sat down for an interview with her fellow television presenter, Hoda Kotb, on NBC’s “TODAY” show. In the highly charged interview, she expressed deep emotional distress concerning the case and the toll it has taken on her family. She also described sleepless nights and overwhelming fear for her mother’s safety.

“We are in agony. It is unbearable,” she said in an excerpt from the interview released on March 25, 2026.

In the immediate aftermath of Nancy’s disappearance, Savannah had stepped away from her high-profile TV duties — including major broadcasts — to focus entirely on the search and be with her family. She quickly traveled to Arizona and remained closely involved in efforts to find her mother.

In the interview with Kotb, which airs in two parts on March 26 and 27, 2026, Savannah described the emotional toll the case has had on her and her family.

“I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night,” she said, adding, “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.”

Savannah also did not hide her desire to bring this case to a close and reunite her mother with her family.

“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Savannah said, adding, “We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through.”

Despite stepping away from her co-anchor duties on the “Today” show, Savannah returned to the show's New York City offices to express her gratitude to her colleagues and friends.

“I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me,” she said to the staff, adding, “And I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be.”

Despite the turmoil she faced, she gave her assurance that she had not lost hope about reuniting with her mother.

“I’m holding onto my faith,” she said. “I still believe.”
