Sasha carved out her own path differ than her family when she decided to attend the University of Michigan. Sasha ended a family tradition of her family all attending an Ivy League school. Barack, Michelle, and Malia - Sasha’s older sister- have all studied at Harvard.

Barack Obama attended Columbia University for his undergraduate studies, while Michelle Obama graduated from Princeton University however the couple both studied law at Harvard University. Malia, following in their footsteps, is in her third year of undergraduate studies at Harvard University.

Sources told TMZ that sororities were competing to have Sasha join their group and dubbed her a "rush crush," however, it was reported the former president's daughter wanted no part in it.  There was a period of time where it looked like Sasha may join Alpha Chi Omega (AXO) after she had stayed at the house and friends from Sasha's high school are members, however, the 18-year-old never registered for recruitment.

Both Michelle and Malia did not join Greek life while they studied in school and it seems Sasha is looking for the same kind of experience while at UM.

One student told Detroit News that they believed Sasha attending UM would lead to an "opportunity for all of us." Sophomore at UM, Jessica Brinser agreed with the student saying:

"I think it's cool that even though her family went to Ivy League schools, she decided that UM was the caliber high enough to match that of an Ivy League school," she said. Adding, "We hope she finds her fit here just like we all have, we all love it here. We hope she does, too."
