Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Staging Her Comeback In Hollywood, Reveals Reasons She Laid Low For Years

Jan 31, 2023 by apost team

Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the most popular actresses of the late '90s and the early 2000s.

Gellar got her career rolling by starring in the daytime soap opera "All My Children," for which she won an Emmy due to her role as Kendall Hart. This led to her starring role in the television adaptation of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." The immensely popular and critically acclaimed series ran from 1997 to 2003 and shot Gellar to fame. She has received five Teen Choice Awards, a Saturn Award, and even a Golden Globe nomination for her iconic portrayal of Buffy Summers.

In between starring in the TV show, she also took on roles in iconic teen slasher films, such as "Scream 2" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." She also starred in other well-received films, such as "Cruel Intentions" and a cameo in "She’s All That," cementing her status as the era's “it girl.”

She also famously played Daphne Blake in the live-action adaptation of "Scooby-Doo" and “Scooby-Doo 2,” along with her now husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. In the mid-2000s, Gellar also starred in films like “Monsters Unleashed,” “The Grudge,” “TMNT,” “Harvard Man,” “Southland Tales” and “The Air I Breathe.”

However, at one point in her life, Gellar took a break from acting and the limelight. She shifted focus onto much more important things – her family. Gellar took a hiatus after giving birth to her daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze, in 2009.

In 2023, Gellar is making her biggest comeback to Hollywood yet with the Paramount+ series “Wolf Pack.” While she was having a quick conversation with the hosts of “The View,” Gellar revealed the real reasons why she left Hollywood for a while.

Gellar and Prinze Jr.’s foundation as friends served as the stepping stone to their eventual romance. Gellar recounted their first date to People in 2021:

"We've had many dinners before. We were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn't make it out, so we decided to still go. We were just two people at dinner catching up. We had a long car ride and a long dinner, and things just happened."

Prinze Jr. knew Gellar was the one from “the first time” they kissed, and they did indeed get married in September 2002 in Mexico. They have also worked together, most notably for the feature film "Scooby-Doo" and its sequel, as well as voiced characters in a few animated movies.

And while both stars are still working in the entertainment industry, they are also working together as parents to their two children: 13-year-old daughter, Charlotte, and their 10-year-old son, Rocky. It was also during this time that Gellar became a full-time mom and put acting in the backseat to focus on being a mother.

Since 2019, Geller has sporadically shown up in various projects in Hollywood. She had a guest starring role in “The Big Bang Theory” and had a voice role in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” in 2021. But there have been periods where the actress lived very much under the radar.

Now, thanks to “Wolf Pack” — a supernatural teen drama series on Paramount+ — Gellar is back on her game again. She also explained how the timing of everything worked together after having taken a step back for some years.

When Gellar graced the set of “The View,” she was asked if her role in “Wolf Pack” would be her comeback. Gellar said she doesn’t mind calling it her “Sarah-ssance,“ a wordplay on her name and renaissance.

“I don’t mind it. I did really take a step back. I had young children. I have been working my whole life. I knew that for the first 10 years of their life, I knew I really wanted to be there and be present in the way that my job doesn't always allow,” she admitted. “I wanted to be in the front row of their performance. Now that they're 10 and 13, they have a life – they wanted me to go. So it worked out that this was the right time to come back and be part of a good show.”

Gellar echoed these thoughts in an interview with The Independent, recalling another huge reason that prompted her to give up acting for a while.

“I was really burnt out. I had two babies back to back. Robin Williams passed away. Everything hit me at once,” Gellar told the outlet.

In 2014, Gellar starred in the short-lived sitcom “The Crazy Ones,” with the late Robin Williams. But during the pandemic, when her self-thought and realizations were at their highest, something dawned on Gellar.

“At first, I didn’t know if I missed acting. But then, during Covid – that’s when I got the itch. That’s when I was really jonesing,” she confessed

Months later, she got an offer to return to her roots in supernatural teen fiction on “Wolf Pack,” and grabbed it: “And I’m enjoying myself so much more now. I’m not putting the same pressures on myself.”
