Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick Have Been Deeply In Love Since Their First Date

Hollywood stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are no strangers to making headlines. The pair are both incredibly successful actors who have had full and varied careers in both television and film. The two have remained mostly private about their relationship over the years. 

Parker is a well-known and well-loved celebrity in the world of acting. She has portrayed a wide variety of characters, but it's safe to say that most people recognize her for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the award-winning tv series "Sex and the City." Parker later reprised her role and portrayed the character again in the films based on the HBO television series titled "Sex and the City" in 2008 and "Sex and the City 2" in 2010.

Broderick is most known for his role iconic and unforgettable role as Ferris Bueller in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "The Lion King," and many other film productions as well as Broadway performances. 

Parker and Broderick started dating in the mid-1990s after her highly publicized relationship with John F. Kennedy Jr. ended. The two A-list names were introduced through the theatre in New York City, and a few months after meeting, Broderick asked Parker on their first date. 

After dating for a few years, the couple eventually tied the knot in 1997. Now, decades later, the two have fostered a successful marriage, having been married for over 20 years and now share three children together. Finding long-standing happy marriages in Hollywood can be hard to find, but this industry couple is a match made to stand the test of time. The two actors are living a real-life romantic movie.

In 1996, Broderick and Parker were co-stars in the broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Before the show debuted, Parker opened up to the Los Angeles Times and boasted about her happiness with her significant other.

"He's so bright, so handsome, I think he's the most handsome man I've seen in my life," she told the publication. "And he inspires me. I'm mad for him, totally," the star actress said. She added that her beau was "the funniest fellow I've met in my whole life."

With such a public life for both Parker and Broderick, the stars have tried to keep their relationship down to earth and away from public opinion. In 2013 she told Harper's Bazaar that having people digging into their business was an adjustment. 

"Matthew and I come from a different time and place," she said. "When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors. [My dream] was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. Nobody talked about being a celebrity." 

The actress who played an impactful sex and love columnist in "Sex and the City," went on to sound like her old character, Carrie Bradshaw. 

"So, when our marriage came up in conversation, it wouldn't occur to us that we were obligated to respond to allegations or gossip. You have to be a bit circumspect, but you also have to take up a position, and you have to stick to it.

Her long-time husband also spoke up about their marriage in 2022. Recently, Broderick appeared on “Watch What Happens Live,” with host Andy Cohen where he opened up about his amazing wife. 

“The first time I met her. I saw her walking down the street and thought ‘That’s it’.” Broderick admitted on air. While playing a fun game on the show, Broderick also shared what his favorite things about Parker were. “Humor and wisdom,” he said. 

Having fun with Cohen the actor gave fans and viewers an inside look behind the curtain of the famous couple's relationship and marriage. 

Broderick shared their favorite date nights and favorite gifts from their marriage. 

He shared that the two enjoy spending their date nights enjoying dinner and time together. The star also admitted live on air that his wife once surprised him with a trip. He gushed that it was the most thoughtful gift he had ever had. 

While the two actors have been in the entertainment industry for so long, Broderick revealed watching Parker be in love with other people on screen hasn’t always been easy.

“Not really. You know maybe occasionally but it doesn’t really bother me, I know what that is like,” he said. The iconic actor also shared that he didn’t know how his wife felt about his past or future on-screen romances. 

“I don’t know,” he said when being asked. Despite Broderick giving the world some insight into their long and seemingly happy marriage— the two still remain relatively private. That may be their secret too a long and happy marriage. 

Achieving a marriage of 25 years for any couple is something worth a standing ovation. However, if you add in the mix of being celebrities, paparazzi, the internet, and other endless outside opinions, it can be difficult to achieve. Yet Parker and Broderick have been successful in this area of their lives as well. 

"I love Matthew Broderick. Call me crazy, but I love him," she told the Los Angeles Times. "We can only be in the marriage we are. We're very devoted to our family and our lives. I love our life. I love that he's the father of my children, and it's because of him that there's this whole other world that I love."

In their 25 years of marriage, the couple had their first child in 2002 before having twin girls via surrogacy in June of 2009. Speaking with Vogue in November 2021, Parker talked about what life was like being a working parent and how fortunate she was. "How can I even complain when I know what's going on in this country, and how it's failed working parents," she said. "I don't have any tips and tricks, except that I'm incredibly fortunate that I have childcare and a partner because so many mothers who work two and three jobs do not."

The Wall Street Journal reported that the couple and their children all live together in Greenwich Village, New York City, in a large home that was purchased in 2016. The couple renovated a double-wide property that they bought for $34.5 million.
