Last week, Sarah Ferguson, 60, got candid in a rare interview with Vogue Arabia.

The Duchess of York took the opportunity to get raw and honest about her own struggles with the media, comparing herself to the drama surrounding Meghan Markle since she married Prince Harry.

“I know what Meghan is going through,” Ferguson told the magazine.

Alexandria Gouveia, who interviewed Ferguson, compared the media scrutiny the Duchess of Sussex is coming under to that that Ferguson did when she married Prince Andrew in 1986.

“There’s always a twist of negativity and it just gets so sad and tiring; it’s hard and mean,” Ferguson added. “I abhor bullying and I feel desperately sorry for the pain they must be going through because I’ve been through it.”

The 60-year-old offered her compliments to Markle, calling her “modern” and “fabulous.”

"It must be hard for Meghan, and I can relate to her," she said. "I believe she is modern and fabulous. She was famous before. She is great. Why can’t Meghan be great? Why can’t she be celebrated?"

Ferguson did admit, however, that back when she was struggling with the negative media coverage herself, she did not handle it the way she should have.

"I eventually self-sabotaged. I didn’t think of the ramifications of my actions," she admitted. "I was at the bottom of the barrel. It was almost as if I wanted to be unlovable. But when I was at the bottom I wrote the book, Finding Sarah."
